but you also would have to put in chat banners and stuff to stop them from doing it, people would still do it regardless, I don't think it's worth it. We don't have staff online 24/7 either, I mean they do have lives
We could perhaps suggest a new crafting recipe. Add a name tag to a copy of a map and it will convert into a non-copyable map, for example.
If anyone wants to make this a suggestion then they are free to do so (I'm lazy so take full credit if you wish). I don't compete in the economy of map art, but if we lose valuable players over something staff can't handle via rules, it still is a pain. I don't really want to see LeoSteel go. Skyblock - Preventing Mapart Reselling (feat. others) (updated) | Skyblock Forums
this is a good idea, in 1.14.4 version players can use a glass to cover the map, and you can't make copies with it, and this isn't hard to do for developers.
I believe there is currently an active suggestion that either is similar to this or is this. I understand how frustrating this is for players. It is never fun to have someone else take credit for your work. The map art I have come across is absolutely breath taking, and I cannot imagine how it must feel to have your work stolen. I have a few ideas to help limit people reselling map art under their name or taking credit for someone else’s work: “Watermark” or put your username in a corner of the map art [I believe LetsGoLandon has another player’s map art on /economy and the creator had watermarked it to show that they had made it] Keep your map art to yourself [do not give it to anyone who may put it in the economy] Players have sold the skulls of Staff Members and the signatures of Staff Members time and time again. Due to this, I have not given out my skull and try to personalize every book I sign or include the player’s name in the book. If the book happens to be sold, the new owner of it will not thrilled owning a signed book that is not addressed to them. I created this response to let everyone know that we understand how annoying this can be, but we will not be adding it into the rules at the moment. This may change in the future, but I cannot promise anything. The Staff have discussed this thread and issue multiple times and we have come to the conclusion that putting any creative thing you created into the economy is at your own risk. Whether this is a signed book, map art, or your skull, you are taking the risk of having your credit stolen and/or having it resold for a higher profit. I understand this is not the response you were hoping for, but I'd like to think it's better than nothing. If you have any questions for me about this topic, I will do my best to answer them.
The suggestion by PCcoolguy100 (aka phr33z) proposes a new command, whereas mine proposes a new crafting recipe. Each their own costs and benefits.
I would suggest you create your own suggestion thread for it or combine the two ideas into one thread.
Perhaps we could make it to where you place a map and a grassblock next to each other and it makes the map to where it can be copied by the user who originally made it. This would also have to make it where maps can normally not be copied.
I hope this stands as a warning for anyone else who wants to bring nice things to the server, I dedicated my time to helping others donating 90% of my grass and resources to others. I will not continue playing on a server that “understands how annoying this can be” but is unwilling to help change that. Good luck all (except those that wish to profit off the hard work and creativity of others). A promise is a promise.
Just made a Forum Suggestion post about a lot of the conversation we've had on this thread. If you guys could give it a read and support it or not I think it would be a big help to everyone here.
I’m not sure how this would work out, but there’s no harm in creating a suggestion : ) I provided suggestions for what players can do to help stop their map art from being stolen. The moment you choose to put something into the economy is the moment you risk having things resold, having your things stolen, or being scammed. I do not believe that it is difficult for us to either implement something to put map art under a username (similar to how signed books work) or for players to put their username somewhere on it. I will send some suggestion threads that seem possible to create these claims to the Developers, but I once again cannot promise anything.
Appreciate your response and nothing personal or anything but putting my name on my mapart or selling it with a book does nothing to stop it being resold. The current economy on the server is about money saving, buy my original with a signed book for 64 grass or buy a copy without a signed book for 32. Zero protection offered. Sure I could not sell my mapart, but my mapart is made to be used, such as the casino kit or shop key kit. A nice feature for people with shops or casinos who want to have something nice to label them with. If everything added to the server is public domain, please explain why staff investigated me and my island for a stolen redstone design. One rule for some, again. Again, nothing personal but I’m disheartened at the staff response to this issue as are many other players.
