I'm currently working on ideas for future map arts and I'm curious as to what sort of things people on here are into ! I'm wanting to make my own art and then map art of it afterwards of things that I'm passionate about but I also know that my interests are niche (eg: I dont really know anyone else who knows of the series 'The legend of Luo Xiao Hei' haha) Things like Music (songs, albums, artists), Media (Anime/Animation, Movies, Games), Foods? Anything really! I'm not asking for map art idea requests however, I'm just scoping for general server interests and such So feel free to list what animes, characters, music albums you enjoy, but keep in mind this is just a discussion
You said it! I personally love the abstract and goofiness of Graham Kartna and am always looking for that sort of vibe with maparts if that helps!
The first image gave me so much nostaglia of early 2000s video games of like maybe something Sonic adjacent and like those I-Spy games haha xD
I want to see an unreasonably muscular anime-style iron golem mapart punching directly into the viewer's POV
That rug that's sold at maparts is pretty cool. I think that specific type of market needs more content; things that are designed to go on the floor. And I know I've seen wallpaper type mapart somewhere before, which is another example of mapart that isn't specifically designed to imitate a portrait or canvas. I've also seen a mapart people use for vending machines on a few islands. That's neat. I'd like to see more mapart that could help builders who focus on cosmetics, like... a kitchen sink, or a stove top/front could be really cool. There are tons of ideas you could gather just by looking at things around your house, like having a series of different doors, or having a gaming PC/desk setup. Seasonal themed bookshelves could probably be a hit; around Halloween having spider webs in the corner with a pumpkin on a shelf, around Xmas having some lights on the corner of the bookshelf with a Santa miniature or something. So in summary, I'd like to see more mapart representation for objects that could be found in a house.
I'd be interested in a 3 dimensional mapart set. I had the idea when I was watching a video about factory-made modular homes. The concept would be that an island owner could simply make a rectangular prism of the preset dimensions(ex: 6x8x8 or cube 9x9x9) and cover the surface area with item frames before blanketing it all with a set of maps, each showing one specific face of a pre-made building. To clarify, this would be like instead of building the Eiffel Tower(maybe I don't have enough room to build the whole thing without sacrificing detail, I could instead take a picture of the Eiffel tower from north south east west and birds-eye view. I would then make an A x B dimensional mapart of each of the five pictures. Finally, I'd just make a cobblestone pillar with A x B x C dimensions and slap the maparts on, giving me a high resolution 3D image of the Eiffel Tower, done with my limited space and even more limited building skill
This has sparked a handful of ideas for me, and is kicking my animal crossing mindset into gear, thank you so much for all the food for thought!
A lot of this is going over my head but sounds interesting nonetheless! I'm slightly understanding as perspective shifts and tricks? Or an illusion of buildings in the distance? My smooth brain trying to comprehend but ultimately failing sorry haha xD
