No what I meant was that if the server resets, it would be a wast of time for all of us making all this progress.
you said the following my friend: Playing a video game is a waste of time. We are all going to die someday, and some puny game stuff isn't going to ever change anything. Yeah, it might change things in the game. But this is all virtual reality. None of this really affects real life, that is it shouldn't. Resets happen, sometimes you lose stuff. It's a game dude, it's not like we are asking you to sacrifice your life.
True, playing video games isn't going to get you a great job in the future. It might just ruin your future though.
exactly. Look at it this way: If the reset causes players to quit, and start enjoying their real lives, then a reset would be amazing. Honestly, if it gets people to get off their bums and go make a difference in this world, then the reset is the best thing that could ever happen.
Some might quit but they might wast their lives on other mc servers or stay on skyblock because they don't know the reality and the outcome of the possibilities.
So maybe by now you understand part of why I left. Besides the negativity, it started taking up too much of my life. It's a bit unfortunate that mods are necessary, because mods have to be extra active on these game servers. They have to make these game servers a part of their lives. I decided I was tired of letting it take so much of my life, so I left. The server became cancerous to me, and that was my own fault.
he needs volunteers, but he can't just allow any random person to open the islands file. there is 600,000+ islands. There is no way the Cyp will trust someone to do the job, he would have to do it himself. And along with that, it would still take A LOT of hours, days, weeks even.
Its not the Islands that would hurt it would be the Items we lose... I mean it took me 3 Years to gain a little Wealth... And then a restes? What would happen to the festive Heads? What to the Creative Items D400 got for Purchasing It for 400$... Reset would be good for the server but not good for the most of the players I mean John_Trollenski0 you would lose your 150k Dias worth stuff and everything...
Either way, the reset would bring positive results. It would possibly reduce lag, and also get people that are way too addicted to video games to leave their games an enjoy their life. I see no real cons.
Lol do you think they will leave forever? xD as soon sb is up again they will start playing again I give a no support
Some people have left forever because of different things. It's nothing new. This reset would be a benefit. Because of all the people that have left, there are way too many excess islands just laying around. I know 50 people alone who left and their islands still sit on the server. Skyblock's playerbase has died down some, so why not reset? With this little of players, removing all those islands would help the lag greatly.
tbh I don't really care if I lose my items. Personally I think it would get other more active because they want to try to make riches. The server needs a fresh start
I was wondering what would happen if someone were to develop an archival capability, where all existing users' islands and inventory were placed into cold storage outside of the server's world files as part of a server reset and loaded into the new world automatically the first time a returning user signs on or visits the archived users' island after the reset. This way, we'd start with a clean slate, but nothing would be lost permanently and could easily be brought back when a user logs on or someone visits an island. There would have to be an index of archived users and islands that would need to be checked when someone signs in or creates a new island to make sure the space previously occupied by an island isn't reallocated so the old island can be restored to its original location. Since every island would start out in an archived state, we'd be able to keep track of how long each island goes unclaimed after the reset, and move archived islands into a separate pool after a period of time, say six months or a year, after which a new island may occupy the old island's coordinates, and if the long-archived island's owner comes back after that time, the island can be restored to a different available location, possibly in a similar biome, or the nearest available location. Since the archived islands and user inventories wouldn't be actively loaded in memory or in the world files, the server would achieve the performance benefits of a reset, without the loss of active users' islands or inventories. This would require the development of custom code and would require significant testing to make sure it works reliably (possibly on a parallel beta server so people could simulate what would happen after a reset) but most importantly this approach wouldn't require Cyp to manually sift through 600,000 islands to figure out which to keep and which to cull. And if we start tracking island last visit dates, we can archive inactive islands automatically going forward, preventing bloat the future. Or we could just repeat the reset/archival process every six months or so if it works well and people know what to expect. Thoughts? Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
As Krissy states here, .org is "litterally dead". Mostly due to people quiting cause of resets, and you know how it goes. one person leaves, so do others. when i joined .org there were constantly 80+ people online. Now its rare to see anyone online except myself. I mean there were times that resets were needed but also times where they were not needed. Herefor, no support.
But the server is already dying, and before someone else says that *Minecraft* is dying, consider that there are lots of other servers with thriving and growing communities, and remember that we see new players every day. The problem is that they're not sticking around, and I suspect it's because they're getting a bad first impression. Whenever we hit more than 100 players online, like on the weekends, the lag gets so bad that new players express shock at how so few players could cause so much lag. I wouldn't expect anyone who isn't emotionally invested in this community to hang in there, so it's no surprise if they start looking elsewhere. I think that if we address the performance issues, update the server software and plugins to fix known issues, and maybe add some new features to attract and retain new players, we could reverse the tide and actually see some growth. I get that nobody wants to lose their stuff. I've already suggested a possible approach that could allow us to reset the server without impacting active players. Would it require work? Certainly. But anything worth having is worth working for. And I'm sure if we put our heads together, we can come up with even better ideas than I can come up with by myself. Or we can do nothing and let the server continue to die a slow death by attrition until the matter becomes irrelevant. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
who gives a damn about your items when other people don't have items either? anyway, would think that a reset would help us a lot quite frankly, either the lag is going to kill the server, or the economy or the reset. fine with any choice he makes, i need my rank though
You make a good point, and I'm of the same opinion myself. If we're all starting from scratch and building up, it's not so bad. But some people have put in a lot of work to acquire items that are really hard to come by, and those people whose only objection to fixing the server is that they would lose their stuff and their creations, I'm suggesting there may be a way to reset the server, while also saving people's islands and inventories to secondary storage, from where it can be retrieved on request. Something like this would allow us to go ahead and reset the server without alienating players who care about their islands and their stuff. But I agree that doing nothing will eventually lead to the server's death anyway, and it would be better to just reset while there's still a chance of rebuilding before everyone disbands and scatters off to different servers. If I had to choose between a certain decline or a chance at rebuilding in a freshly reset world, I'd choose the latter, even if it meant losing all my stuff, as long as my friends stuck around with me.
