Time to lean IN to what makes a sky block... SkyBlock! You're right! It's not just a floating island in the sky, its a vanilla based, limited resources GAME within Minecraft. If they want a generic sky island game, make it.... but don't call it SkyBlock! Skyblock is more than that! The ones who previously stole the name to add their twists to it, haven't had the longevity or success that SkyBlock continues to have! This is what makes SkyBlock unique and not just a block in the sky! This is THE SkyBlock, and maybe a slight rebrand might be a good move adding THE to differentiate between the BIG GUYS copycats and the original! "Nothing Beats the Original!" "If it ain't by Noobcrew, it ain't SkyBlock!" Point out your originality and that will draw attention to their false claim! LEAN IN on the differences and what makes you the original. Players see that and appreciate that! Especially the ones who want to support the creators, just like you do! Some will go down the rabbit hole, find this post and just like that... new ally! Set yourself apart from this "generic" mode they speak of in an OUTWARD fashion. Get that push (and eyes on you) AHEAD of them just incase it takes a turn we don't want. I appreciate you Noobcrew. - Economy does not have a daily kit like Survival does. There is no kit like [Skytitan] in Economy. It only goes up to [Highroller], which is equivalent to being [Skygod].
I'm sure some Economy players (like myself) would enjoy a daily kit considering it's mainly AFKing.
- /kit Iron - I heard this used to be a thing, why did it go? Bring it back, people would pay for that. Especially map artists.
- /kit Donor [#] I guess this also used to be a thing, bring it back for the Donator rank tag. And add some extra pet disguises to go along with it, or some extra supplies like sand, iron, diamonds, etc.
- Maybe a cheap kit to increase your /daily rewards.
- Purchase a few disguises?

So many different ways to incorporate some more cashflow. I'm sure some people would argue, and some wouldn't mind.
I would spend some money to support as long as I am getting something worth while for the server. (better economy kit )

As both a longtime minecrafter and longtime skyblocker, I feel as if I can speak on this topic with some level of authority.

I recall the days of pre-official release Minecraft and the exponential growth the game was experiencing. I recall the minecraft forums being a place to share seeds with crazy generations. I recall the minecraft forums / planetminecraft and a few others to be places where you would search and share challenge maps, adventure maps, cool builds, whatever. And I recall when something came across the minecraft forums and caught on like no other challenge map I'd ever seen before - Skyblock, by some dork named "noobcrew". Unlike a lot of challenge maps at the time, skyblock was a unique twist. It was the simplicity of the concept that made it so enjoyable.
"Here's your limited resources - how far can you go?" I'd never really seen a challenge map with that sort of approach up until Skyblock. Time passed and I was getting involved in the multiplayer scene, as it became MUCH easier to host and join servers than it used to be, and the game was becoming much more reliable in multiplayer contexts, and I recall finding out that there was an official Skyblock server, so of course - I joined, and 12 years later I still haven't left... (permanently. I do clearly take long breaks every now and then)

I find the situation you're describing to be extremely frustrating because it's yet another example of someone's goodwill being punished. You see it happen all the time with intellectual property - especially when a big tech company finds that IP profitable. A creator will say "hey guys, I made this, and I want to share it". Then some company comes along, trying to troll thousands or millions of dollars from that recognizable IP and claims it was theirs to use the whole time. Well I'm sorry, Microsoft but unlike you - I do remember who coined the term "Skyblock". I also remember a time when Minecraft was much more lax about people using "Minecraft" or "MC" or other such trademarked names in their content, because it helped with that exponential growth. And they suffered a similar scenario where they had to start tightening restrictions on usage. You'd think they'd feel some level of kinship with creators who go through the same thing - but as Microsoft loves to repeatedly demonstrate, the ONLY thing on their minds is money. Money from millions of accounts we locked out in our transition. Money from content stolen from creators. Money that goes into the pockets of lawyers with the mission of silencing anyone who dare point out "hey uh...that isn't yours to sell".

It's gross, it's historically inaccurate, and I hope you win your legal battles.

 

Crew, I may disagree with how some things are done and some of the people on this server, but Skyblock is yours. I find it annoying that some people play the idea on different Minecraft servers, yet they have never heard of you. Since I first played the map (and later the server) with my friends back in 2016, I knew it would be a part of my childhood, and that you would be a part of my experiences growing up. I do hope that you rightfully get the rights you deserve and even if you don't, I can't speak for others, but I will always consider you the rightful owner of Skyblock. I hope that the current Minecraft servers will do the right thing, and support you in being the known creator to Skyblock. I appreciate you writing to the community and I think it's important people know what's going on.

Kept a vague interest on this since I heard about it a few years back, very interesting to now read this post and get a bit more depth into the topic.

They shouldn't be able to argue that "skyblock" is just a random word that everyone knows. When pages say "the original Skyblock" it is a proper noun, especially with the uppercasing. Skyblock, without it's proper noun term, would be useless.

I'd really hate to see you lose this battle, they are knowingly allowing false advertising. I should not be able to just download something, mildly change it up, and sell it for a price while saying it is the original. I know what I'm saying has a lot of holes here but I am also upset to hear. I just wish there was something that could've helped you avoid answering their questions. I was so upset I made an account just to be here

I haven't really played on this server apart from 2019 maybe, but i made a forums account today just to wish good luck to you.. I really liked SkyBlock as the game itself, and only a year ago did i found out that you were the original creator of it. Now they trying to take your creation away from you?

 

Would it be possible to make a petition or something to let Microsoft know the community is behind Noobcrew? Putting some kind of pressure on them in the only way we can: bad publicity.

 

Exactly. Microsoft's main argument here is completely irrelevant. Is every seller of square plastic boxes now allowed to put "The original Tupperware" on the label? I don't think so.

In fact, should it even be necessary for Noobcrew to be the one fighting this? Can Minecraft players not sue the marketplace or its sellers for lying about the products they charge real money for? Are there no consumer protection laws that apply?

 

Noobcrew I really hope that you're done justice, what's even sadder to me is that a lot of the people think those are the "original skyblock" plugins, with a lot of people commenting on their posts saying this brings back memories from the old days when the author of the plugin has clearly been robbed
