This does rely on both accounts being able to be monitored to make sure they both stay on all day, or you risk losing everything that belongs to one player being lost. I re-launch my game every morning, have an auto reconnect mod, and a macro to bring me to /economy just in case server crashes. And still once or twice a week i come home and one or both my accounts are not where they're meant to be (logged in, afking). For this reason I choose to eat the full tax cap and strictly keep cropper ownership separated to the island owner only.
I find auto-reconnect works for me pretty well. The only time it struggles is around the restart but I'm usually on around then anyway. I have noticed some times at work that I've been logged out so I just login using Chatcraft on my phone.
