The number of people who use gay in terms of sexuality in comparison to the people who use it offensively is negligible. The problem with unblocking the word from the filter is people will use it in a derogatory way, and while we could kick for it, why prevent something before it happens?

Here's how it usually goes:
"Haha ur island is so gay you pig"

What you're saying usually happens:
"Hey guys, I'm coming out as gay! Hope no one looks at me differently "

There are far fewer people who use gay in the way of expressing sexuality than in a rude way. Sure, it could be unblocked, but almost no one uses it in a correct way.

That's wrong, and we shouldn't be doing that. In fact, we've already announced to not kick for the word unless it's used in a derogatory manner.

 

Gay shouldn't be used as an insult, but it's Minecraft and full of immature kids, so it will probably be used as one 90% of the time tbh.

Overall, I support it. I just don't know if it will help or not.

 

Yea, whats wrong with gay lol? its a sexuality or can be defined as "happy". people are just immature and use it in anotner way, like "thats gay af."

Now here is where the problem lays.

People use the word "Gay" in a derogatory because they know it has meaning, it has "Umpf". They know its offensive when used in such a manner and continue to do it because of the controversy it causes. This is something people lack to see. If you want people to not use the word in such a way, then why have it filtered? That only makes it worse. If honestly people weren't so policing on words like this, then people would stop using it in such a manner, as it would have no effect - It's been normalised. Why would someone use it to offend if the person isn't offended by the word anymore?

Unfilter it. for goodness sake already.

 

Two thread have been made on this already, one was only two days ago.
People. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR SUGGESTION HASN'T ALREADY BEEN SUGGESTED. My suggestion to make this a rule isn't really going anywhere, so I'm just going to scream at people and hope they listen.

Well, if people feel imsulted by being called gay, that's a bit strange. It is a normal word. I understand your point though.

Personally, I've seen many more people saying they're gay than calling others gay. And then they get outraged that it is filtered and spam chat. So technichally, unfiltering it should stop a tiny bit of spam.

Yes! That is amazing.

It will stop people thinking that the server is homophobic. Just last night there was an enormous argument becasue someone tried to say they were gay and though the server was homophobic.

Sorry As I stated previously, the first thread became more of a discussion, and I am also suggesting a general filter revamp. I didn't notice te other thread, woops, but mine is longer than it now so I'll keep this one open.

What you see vs what actually happens are two different things. I do agree that censoring it standardized the word as inappropriate, but I'm neutral on this

I give my full support because homosexuals are being brought into society like mad, so I do not believe that gay should be considered a "bad word." In fact, I think it would be better to just throw it out there so kids don't think that it's bad.

 

I support it 99% because people could use it as an insult and really make someone sad/mad. But besides that I agree completely
