Since sandstone is a fairly regular building block, and unlike grass it is not currency, is there any way the cost of producing it can be reduced? ...it's not a reversible material (so it can't be broken back down to sand), therefore I'm struggling to get my head round why it's so dear, it's not so aesthetically pleasing or popular as quartz, so 6 blocks of grass to buy 6 redsand (plus some bonemeal if you want yellow sandstone), which produce 1 sandstone stair seems pricey. When you consider that you can only craft stairs in fours that's 24 blocks of grass every time you need a sandstone stair ... ouch ... that's ridiculous... Have I got that right? or is there another x4 multiplier in there for turning 4 blocks of sand into sandstone before cutting 4 stairs out of 6 blocks?... ouch ouch ouch Add to that the scarcity of sand in the first place...
(I couldn't even ease the pain by mixing my dirt with gravel and tilling it, then placing it on my island so that I only used half my grass savings as building blocks!)
Unless a custom sandstone recipe is manually added, the cost of sandstone will likely remain the same. Red sand costs 1 grass and it has remained this price for as long as a recipe to switch red sand into normal sand was added. Overall, you should consider building with a different type of material for now.
Yes, I was thinking along the lines of a recipe being added/adjusted ... perhaps the recipes for converting 4 sand into 1 block of sandstone could be adjusted so that they produce as many blocks as you put in (4) rather than only producing 1? ...this would help so the steps are not so prohibitively expensive...
I think this is a good idea - it keeps sandstone a 'costly' block to own, but not so costly that it's hard to obtain great amounts of it (which is something would use against in an argument). It's also a simple recipe to add and doesn't change the way sand is obtained.
Yea i asked about this a while back, or a way to re-dye red sandstone to normal so the sandstone you can get from /ma j is usable. Any change to sandstone is a good one since im building with it too:rofl:
You can dye it white/yellow by surrounding 1 block of bonemeal with 8 blocks of redsand in the crafting menu. The other gripe I have is that I've now invested about 300 grass blocks in sandstone steps (so I'm about half way), but it's only raised my island /level by about 25!
