Asthma is a (common) chronic inflammatory disease that affects the airways in an individual’s body which results in: wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath and tightness of the chest; there are a few alleged (yet not proven) causes of asthma that can vary from being hereditary to ecological, both features can influence the severity of the condition and how it responds to treatment. Asthma can supposedly be deteriorated by many aspects of environment, some that can be as simple as allergies or an insignificant alteration in diet. “There are 5.4 million people with asthma in the UK, which means asthma affects one in five households.”[1] A prevalent alleged cause of asthma is said to be air pollution. Air pollution can be either chemical (which originates commonly from factors and vehicles) or natural (which can originate from volcanoes and anything of that nature), these can not only harm the environment but can effect humans in ways to which may result in later illnesses. Although there is no evidence that suggests that air pollution can actually cause respiratory diseases like asthma “In fact some research in Europe shows more allergy and asthma in less polluted cities.”[2], however, there are two forms of air pollution to which can make asthma worse which are: particles which originate from combustion (e.g. Bush fires, car engines and diesel exhaust), the smaller particles can travel down the airways which is believed (not proven) to cause asthma and other respiratory problems; another way that air pollution is believed to cause asthma is through Have fun with my partially done coursework.
