I've said it before and I'll keep saying it: /ignore really isn't a fix for anything. It's a stopgap at best and an active encumbrance at worst.

    As the rules read:
    'CHAT OFFENCES
Users should not spam, flood, or be rude in chat. You should also not create fake messages, as this is against our rules and counts as trolling. Users advertising their island must wait 5 minutes between advertisements and limit their advertisements to one message, or it will be considered spam.'

Without getting too specific, the rules read 'advertising their island'. This does not specify per account. If there are two accounts, owned by the same person, that is considered one 'User'. If that said 'User' is not waiting 5 minutes per advertisement, regardless of which account the advertisement is coming from, this is considered spam.

Back to the main topic, advertising islands, shops, casinos, and whatever else, has been a massive part of not only Skyblock, but pretty much every other server ever. As someone said above, the /ad system is not sufficient enough. Until a better system is developed, chat advertisements are totally fine. No part of me thinks that chat advertisements would ever not be allowed, even if there was a better system.

It's hard to verify what is and isn't an 'automatic advertisement'. It really isn't a big deal, mostly everyone uses them anyway. I don't understand why they wouldn't be allowed given that the time gap is sufficient enough.

We'll look at a 15-minute gap per economy advertisement. Still discussing this with the team.

Basically, if you message the advertiser and say that their ads are too spammy and if they could please tone it down, it's automatic if they don't respond & act on your message.

luka can you clarify why a 15 minute gap is only being looked at for economy, when this thread is marked as global and there is plenty of support for this to apply to survival as well? As Sky points out, /ignore is not a viable option for every user that auto-advertises - it makes it difficult to follow and engage in chat if you have more than a few (active) users ignored.

Personally, I don’t think it’s really needed for Skyblock as it’s a more face paced chat.

The suggestion is marked as Global as what he’s actually suggesting is disallowing automatic advertisement, not suggesting for a bigger gap.

My ideal gap for auto adverts is infinite time, but I'd love to see any movement in the right direction!

A 15 minute gap has been discussed, as seen above. Would the economy community rather it to be 10?

I've always advertised repeated macros with a 15-20min delay. I think that's fair, adverts can bring colour and creativity at times when chat is quiet. And players can stay in local modes if they don't like seeing the auto ads.

If the time gap is increased, will that come with any kind of rule clarification regarding the difference between automated macros and some greenbean just spamming chat with "selling grass on ah! selling sand on ah! selling iron on ah!"

Common sense applies. It's the same way we've been doing it for almost two years now.

At this stage, auto advertisements will still be allowed.

Please refer to Economy Updates - July 25th, 2024 as the gap has now increased to 10 minutes on Economy.
