This idea is similar to how helper bots work on IRC. Lets us be able, via commands, be able to anonymously quote a specific rule to a user. Or subset of a rule. For example user JohnDoe is new, and is not aware the server has rules. Most of us don't like to see new users get punished immediately so we usually give them a heads up of what they are doing wrong via chat. But sometimes this is taken the wrong way and heats up the chat even more. The user could get sensitive to being called out, even if we are you trying to save them from further punishment. We could have a command like /rulesmsg JohnDoe keyword And the server would then tell the user, without refering who gave the command, which rule in specific they are breaking. This would have a cooldown in case multiple users try to issue the same command (nick/keyword). If its a different keyword or user would be on a different cooldown. (eg: 2 min cooldown?) Keywords could be: profanity, rude, subject, spam, flood, ads, trolling. Trying to keep it specific so the user knows exactly what's going on, and it could have a link to the subsection of the general rules. Example messages: Profanity is not allowed on this server. (link) Certain chat topics are not allowed on this server. (link) Please refrain from excessive advertising/trolling/etc. (link) I think the user seeing it's coming straight from the server, would not cause a reaction towards a specific person, and they might take the warning more seriously.
I would love to see this implemented. It really sucks trying to gently guide another player towards following the rules only to have your head bitten off for it.
that's why a cooldown is important. Maybe it's 2 maybe it's 5. But in the end if you feel the user is not cooperating, then you should revert to other methods. Like a traditional report. This system is intended for punishable offenses. A variant could be used to boiler plate help and guides. Like go to /warp cobblegen
Might be nice to test it for a few days and see what the feedback is? I don't know if it'd be abused much but I think it could be confusing to people if the msg isn't specific enough.
Good idea but I can see this getting abused with people just spamming chat with it. There would have to be some sort of limit for it.
