All Things Trading Trading is a very large and essential part of Skyblock. We require trades with each other in order to acquire items or resources that we may not have and also for profit. However, trading can also be dangerous if not done correctly with the risk of losing your money or items through scams, participating in bad casinos, lowballing, misconfiguring chest shops, and more. This thread will help explain the best and simplest ways to trade, and how to completely avoid the negative side of trading. This thread will be broken up into different parts for each section: 1) How to trade 2) Where to trade 3) Chest shops 4) Problems that arise through trading and how to avoid them Things said in this thread may be repeated more than once, as I am covering both Skyblock and Economy. Skyblock I will firstly be covering the /skyblock side of trading. Before trading, please read this thread located here to know what's illegal to trade and what's not. How to trade: In /skyblock, the currency is grass. Trading can be done in more than one ways: 1) Two parties dropping their items to one anther. 2) Using a normal chest to exchange items. 3) Chest shops. Where to trade: 1) Visiting other islands. 2) Using '/ads' to find and visit player shops. 3) Going to '/warp grass' to buy from the in-game server shop. 4) Buying items from the skyblock shop website. 5) Going onto the Skyblock Official Discord and checking the #skyblock-trading chat to request for trades or find other players who are looking for trades. 6) Checking the Skyblock Trading section of the forum to create a thread requesting a trade or finding other threads of players looking for a trade. Chest shops: Using chest shops is the most efficient way to trade. Note: Chest shops are not just limited to normal chests, they can be done on shulker boxes and trapped chests as well. 'Buy' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are looking to buy an item from other players using grass. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Must always say "[Trade]" Line 2 - Amount of the item you're looking to buy Line 3 - Amount of grass you are willing to buy the item(s) for Line 4 - Must always say "Buy" The sign should look like this: When you input everything, the sign should look like this: - (Last line will always be your IGN) Afterwards, left click the sign with the item you are looking to buy, and it should automatically set up the shop. 'Sell' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are looking to sell an item to other players for grass. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Must always say "[Trade]" Line 2 - Amount of the item you're selling Line 3 - Amount of grass you are willing to sell the item(s) for Line 4 - Must always say "Sell" The sign should look like this: When you input everything, the sign should look like this: - (Last line will always be your IGN) Afterwards, left click the sign with the item you are looking to sell, and it should automatically set up the shop. 'Barter' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are looking to trade an item with players for another item. This is for when you may want something other than grass in return, or vice versa. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Must always say "[Trade]" Line 2 - Amount of the item you are trading/selling Line 3 - Amount of the item you are buying Line 4 - Must always say "Trade" The sign should look like this: When you input everything, the sign should look like this: - (Last line will always be your IGN) Afterwards, for this one, you will have to left click the sign twice. The first time must be with the item that you are putting into the chest, which is the one you are selling. The second item is the item you are looking to buy. 'Donation' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are looking for donations, meaning you get items without giving anything away in return. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Must always say "[Trade]" Line 2 - Amount of the item you are looking to get/buy Line 3 - Amount of grass you are giving in return. Must always be 0. Since it is 0, it means you are getting items for free Line 4 - Must always say "Buy" The sign should look like this: When you input everything, the sign should look like this: - (Last line will always be your IGN) Afterwards, left click the sign with the item you are looking to buy, and it should automatically set up the donation shop. 'Giveaway' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are giving away/selling items for nothing in return. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Must always say "[Trade]" Line 2 - Amount of the item that you are giving away/selling Line 3 - Amount of grass you want in return. Must always be 0. Since it is 0, it means you are giving the items for free Line 4 - Must always say "Sell" The sign should look like this: When you input everything, the sign should look like this: - (Last line will always be your IGN) Afterwards, left click the sign with the item you are giving away, and it should automatically set up the giveaway shop. Problems that arise through trading and how to avoid them: Scams Scamming is the act of one party agreeing to a trade, but not going through with their side of the deal, resulting in them taking the items without paying the full price or any price at all. (Credits to 52Phenomenon, taken from thread: What to do if you've been griefed, looted or scammed) Lowballing Lowballing is the act of one party buying an item for a price a lot lower than it's worth from someone that may not be familiar with the price of the item. To avoid being a victim to this, please make sure that you familiarize yourself with how much the prices of items are at that point in time, as prices can fluctuate. Ask other trusted players online, or moderators, so that you can make sure you're selling your item for the right price. Participating in scam/broken casinos A scam casino is one that does not offer the correct odds or prizes that are advertised, resulting in the player making a huge loss and never having a chance to win the prize that was promised. A broken casino is one where the functionality of the redstone and its parts do not produce fair odds or release the prizes that are advertised. The only way to avoid these types of casinos is to try and avoid gambling on the server, as anyone can easily fall victim to this. Staff do not approve casinos, so you will have to take a risk when deciding to gamble. Misconfiguring chest shops This is when a player mixes up the item that they are buying and selling on the sign. For /skyblock, this is mostly only relevant to barter shops as a player needs to left click the chest shop sign with two different blocks. To avoid this, please read tutorials about this such as in this thread. Another helpful tutorial is Krissy's (p.jm) video about chest shops. You can check it out here.
Economy Now I'll be covering the /economy side of trading. Before trading, please read this thread located here to know what's illegal to trade and what's not. How to trade: In /economy, the currency is Skybucks/money. Trading can be done in more than one ways: 1) Auction house 2) Chest shop Where to trade: 1) Vising player shops 2) Typing '/ah' to check out the auction house, and '/ah sell' to sell an item in auction house 3) Typing '/shop' to check out the server shop 4) Buying items from the skyblock shop website. 5) Going onto the Skyblock Official Discord and checking the #economy-trading chat to request for trades or find other players who are looking for trades. 6) Checking the Economy Trading section of the forum to create a thread requesting a trade or finding other threads of players looking for a trade. Chest shops: Using a chest shop is an efficient and safe way to trade. S = You are selling to other players B = You are buying from other players 'Sell' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are looking to sell an item to other players for money. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Type in your in-game name Line 2 - Amount of the item you are looking sell Line 3 - The price you are selling the item(s) for Line 4 - Item ID/name Check item IDs here Here's an example: This will look the same after you input everything. 'Buy' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are buying an item from other players using money. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Type in your in-game name Line 2 - Amount of the item you are buying Line 3 - The price you are buying the item(s) for Line 4 - Item ID/name Check item IDs here Here's an example: This will look the same after you input everything. 'Buy and Sell' chest shops These are chest shops that you set up when you are buying an item from players as well as selling the same item. When setting this shop up, you need to set up the sign like this: (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) Line 1 - Type in your in-game name Line 2 - Amount of the item you are buying and selling Line 3 - The price you are buying the item(s) for, and the price you are selling the item(s) for On the third line, the amount that comes first always has to be more than the second amount or else the sign will break. If you want to buy for more, put B first. If you want to sell for more, put S first. Line 4 - Item ID/name Check item IDs here Here's an example: This will look the same after you input everything. Additional info about chest shops You can have the item ID/name be automatically set on it's own if you put a question mark on the 4th line. (ignore Line 1, 2, etc.) The question mark will then turn into the ID/name of the first item that is in the chest. This is a much easier way to put the item ID/name without having to type it in yourself. Here's an example: If the first item in the chest is stone, the sign will automatically look this afterwards: Problems that arise through trading and how to avoid them Auction House Be careful when selling on auction house. Because it's a free for all, anyone can buy what you are selling even if you intend to sell it to a certain person. Please make sure to read the price of the item as well before buying it, as it's a common mistake for someone to make an item more expensive than it should be. When selling something yourself, please ensure you're selling it for the right price. When using '/ah sell', it auctions whatever is in your hand, so make sure you have the right item and amount in your hand before selling. Server shop When it comes to the server shop, you are able to sell items to the shop. The command '/sell all' sells everything you have in your inventory. A major warning is that when you '/sell all', armor that you may be wearing and tools that you may have which are unenchanted will be sold as well. Please make sure you don't make this mistake. Take out anything from your inventory which you do not want to sell before executing that command. Scams Scamming is the act of one party agreeing to a trade, but not going through with their side of the deal, resulting in them taking the items without paying the full price or any price at all. (Credits to 52Phenomenon, taken from thread: What to do if you've been griefed, looted or scammed) Lowballing Lowballing is the act of one party buying an item for a price a lot lower than it's worth from someone that may not be familiar with the price of the item. Ask other trusted players online, or moderators, so that you can make sure you're selling your item for the right price. Misconfiguring chest shops This is when a player mixes up the item that they are buying and selling on the sign. Players may also input the wrong item ID. For /economy, this may be a common issue as chest shops are used often and item IDs are sometimes manually typed in. To avoid this, please read tutorials about this such as in this thread. Check /warp chestshop for a simple tutorial/showcase of how the chest shop should look like. Thank you all for reading! ♡
Yeah I didn't do classic because it doesn't have that many players :/ I'll maybe add that in in the future! Thank you!! Thank you Boba!
Add classic too, its a server, big ranked players like me and dietpepsi play on there still, and some new players probably with forum acc, make 1~ its easy
On the where to trade: I would add for players to check discord or Trade Forum to find other active players
