We've got some exciting news for you: Starting on the 29th of July we'll host our first 1.19 beta test over the weekend, this beta test will focus on the economy server but the results affect both servers since they are very similar at the core so even if you only care about Skyblock you should think about participating.

As the title suggests the economy server won't just get updated to a new version but will also receive a bunch of changes and new features. More on that later when we get into the list of changes that you can expect. Keep in mind that the beta server is a separate server and the things you do won't affect your live server progress.

If you want to participate just fill out this form: 1.19 Economy Revamp Beta

    ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
    General:

The beta server has been updated to 1.19 introducing a total of 541 new items and blocks/block variants (not all of them will be obtainable) as well as a bunch of new mobs, biomes, and much more. In addition to the new vanilla features we also introduced numerous general changes to improve the server:
    • Our old alternate redstone algorithm will be replaced with a new one with similar performance benefits, this new system will hopefully further improve the compatibility with some vanilla redstone contraptions. This will not affect the current redstone limit.
    • The ore generation system has been updated and is now using a more modern weight solution which will increase its precision by a lot. The /gen command will also simulate one million iterations the first time it gets used and then display the results behind the configured chances. Please keep in mind that those simulated values might change on every restart once it'll simulate again.
    • We are adding a scoreboard that will display useful and updated info like your current island level, the amount of money you own and your challenges progress. The displayed info will change based on the island you are currently on.
    • The server-sided render distance has been increased meaning that you'll be able to see more chunks around you. This only has a small performance impact because the amount of chunks that will get ticked do not change.
    • We replaced the old, outdated, bartender system with a new one. This change is still experimental and we might replace the updated one with a new, more exciting, system in the future. For the time being the new bartender will no longer feature a gambling mechanic and instead each drink will provide fix potion effects.
    • Kits with a 24h cooldown will reset at a fix time every day instead of 24h after using the command.
    • The auto message system (Skyblock system messages) can now react to specific conditions, for example it'll notify players who have a low food level that there is a public animal farm at /warp passive which they can use to get some food, each of those messages has a rather long per-player cooldown to not bother anyone.
    • Many of you know that the natural spawn rates of monsters and animals have been a big issue for a long time and it has got to a point where regular player weren't able to get a single mob to spawn on their island during the more busy hours. We adjusted the mob spawning system which should result in much better mob spawn rates, especially animals, which will now spawn much more frequently than before. The changes also affect the the mob limit which will now scale based on the amount of players that are currently online (and are not playing together). Most of the typical vanilla spawn rules still apply so make sure that you have enough space and the proper light level.
    • The old hologram system has been replaced with a new, more modern, system which allows us to build more complex and interesting holograms. We for example utilized it for the new holograms at /warp passive on the beta server which you'll be able to check out once the beta test is live.
    • The old pets system has been replaced with a new, more modern, system (don't worry you'll still have access to all your pets). This new system allows you to have multiple pets active at the same time (currently up to 3) and you'll have more customization options.
    • The old disguise system has been replaced with a new, more modern, system. For now this doesn't really have any impact on the players but it will allow us to give you the option to customize your disguise in the future.
    • The in-game shop (/shop) has been updated and will now sell a bunch of new, higher version items and blocks.
    • Players will be able to sit on stairs/slabs (by right clicking them) and anywhere on the floor by using /sit.
    • The lottery base prize pool now gets increased based on the collected crop hopper taxes. (Check the Gameplay and Economy section for details)
    • The lottery ticket price will be increased from 100$ to 500$.
    • The lottery draw delay will be increased to 2h.
    Performance:

Everyone knows that performance is and has always been an issue (mainly because of how the standard server implementation works), newer versions generally tend to be slower because of the extra features they provide. We are going to introduce numerous changes that will directly or indirectly aim to improve the performance of the server:
    • The island creation process received experimental changes aiming to heavily improve its performance. The current candidate that will be active during the first beta test is effectively ~1800% faster (main thread).
    • The ClearLag plugin has been removed and will be replaced with a faster, more natural system. Stacks on the ground will now merge if possible (bypassing the stack size limit) and will get removed after a certain amount of time, more common items might despawn sooner than others.
    • Naturally spawned mobs will no longer stack, this will improve the overall performance because stacked mobs only count as one entity (resulting in countless spawn attempts) and will work hand in hand with our improved mob spawn system resulting in much better animal and monster spawn rates on regular islands with enough space.
    • Some of the crop hopper changes (that I'll explain in detail in the Gameplay and Economy section) will heavily improve the overall performance. (20-30%)
    • We adjusted multiple settings to increase the overall performance of entity ticking.
    • A new event limitation system will be tested which will reduce the effectiveness and performance impact of things like flush farms. This should greatly increase the overall performance when a lot of players are online that have their own mob farm.
    • ... more changes that indirectly affect the performance.
    Gameplay and Economy:

This will probably be the biggest and the most interesting section for most players. We are going to introduce major gameplay and economy changes because we think that the current state isn't very optimal. The goal of those changes is to get away from the pumpkin/melon and profit shop driven economy towards one where you get rewarded for playing actively and you can build farms for whatever you like. Please keep in mind that most of those changes and new features are very experimental and you'll be able to submit feedback during the beta test using a form or on the forums by creating a suggestion with the "Beta" prefix. We know that not everyone is going to like some of the changes but we can't make everyone happy so lets get into it:
    • There will be different tiers of vote keys that you receive based on your playtime. Higher tier vote crates will contain better rewards and mainly get rid of the cobblestone stacks that you usually get quite commonly. For now you'll receive regular vote keys during your first 8h of playtime, tier 2 vote keys till the 24h mark and tier 3 vote keys from there onwards.
    • The nether drop rate system has been changed completely, the Fortune enchant will now increase your drop chance rather than the amount of items that will drop. Mainly new players will benefit from this change because we increased the base chance but overall this is a buff for everyone, here is how it'll affect the average drop rates of quartz for example (in comparison to the old Fortune system):
    1. No Fortune: 25% more drops.
    2. Fortune I: 18.6% more drops.
    3. Fortune II: 9% more drops.
    4. Fortune III: 1.6% more drops.
    • A daily quests system has been added that allows you to complete randomly selected quests every day. The quests will reset at a fix time. For completing said quests you'll receive basic rewards like money and/or items as well as quest points which you can spend in our new quest shop to buy rare and valuable things. Easy quests can be completed rather quick while harder quests might take some time but will grant more and better rewards.
    • During a VoteParty there is a 50% chance (might change) that a Vote Party Pinata Llama will spawn at spawn for a fixed duration. The llama will constantly push nearby players away and hitting it will grant you extra rewards up to a per-player limit. It will also constantly drop experience orbs that you can pick up to increase your level. Players that actually play will benefit the most from this addition.
    • At fixed times every day Wandering Traders will spawn at a random spot around the spawn area for 20 minutes. All traders will buy items that you can farm whilst playing like bones, carrots, fish for a much higher price than "/warp shop" up to a per-player limit. There is also a server wide limit so you might have to hurry if you want to sell your items. Traders will also sell potentially exotic items at random to you based on their type which you can check by looking at the decoration that the trader's llamas are wearing, those items will also have a per-player and server wide sell limit. Mainly new players will benefit from the buy feature because the amount of items that you can sell to the trader is rather low (usually 64 items or less) but you'll get much more money than if you'd sell to "/warp shop" while players that have been playing for a while might benefit more from the sell feature if they are looking for specific, uncommon, items and blocks. Interacting with a Wandering Trader without buying or selling anything will upset the trader's llamas. (Don't upset the llamas)
    • In order to reward players more for actively playing we are currently working on a Jobs system which is still heavily a WIP, we hope that you'll be able to test at least one job when the beta test goes live. Our jobs system will give you the freedom of getting rewarded for doing whatever you want to do as long as you actively do it (so no afk farming). We are planning to release a total of 12 jobs in the future, each with their own rewards as well as unique and potentially game changing abilities that you can unlock and select by leveling up the job. Since it's still a WIP and definitely one of the biggest changes (if not the biggest change) I'll probably explain it again in detail once it's fully ready, internally it's a very powerful and complex system. For those who care, here are two prototype ability descriptions for the Alchemist job (again, these are a WIP):
    • Crop hoppers definitely changed the way the economy works. They are the by far most effective way to farm and will generate a lot of income for their owners. Whilst being somewhat controversial the introduction of crop hoppers was a necessary change that heavily improved the economy server's performance. We are not fully satisfied with the current state of the crop hopper and are going to adjust the way crop hoppers work:
    1. Crop hoppers will now automatically replant wheat seeds and will no longer collect them.
    2. The item yield can now be modified which allows us to make better balancing changes.
    3. You will now have to pay taxes for every active crop hopper you own per Minecraft day (so every 20 minutes). The tax amount per crop hopper is currently calculated as: (3.0 * (tier * 2.0)). All the taxes collected this way will be added to the next lottery base prize pool.
    4. Crop hopper prices will change: T1 10k -> 20k, T2 30k -> 50k, T3 50k -> 80k.
    5. Crop hoppers will now instantly sell the items they collect if their owner is online and the affected chunks are loaded.
    • We are adding an experimental dynamic pricing system that affects the /sell prices. The prices will change depending on how often that specific item gets sold in comparison to all other items that get tracked. The system will not only potentially decrease the value of items that the majority of the players sell but it will also increase the value of unpopular items over time. There will be an upper and lower limit so an item can't be worthless or worth too much. This is of course a really big and experimental change so we'll see how it goes and if it'll stay in its current form.

    Quality of Life:
    • We are introducing a preferences system that allows you to adjust some aspects of Skyblock to your liking utilizing an easy to use GUI. Many of you are using the Skyblock Mod which provides a large amount of QoL features, we think that it should not be necessary to install a mod to benefit from them. For now you'll be able to change 4 settings:
    1. You will be able to toggle seeing auto messages. (Turned on by default)
    2. You will be able to toggle auto lottery ticket buying. (Turned off by default)
    3. You will be able to toggle auto lottery reward claiming. (Turned off by default)
    4. You will be able to toggle the new scoreboard. (Turned on by default)
    • All vote keys can now be opened instantly by right clicking them in your main hand whilst you are crouching. This allows player to open them much more quickly which is especially useful for long term players that own a large quantity.
    • Offline vote rewards can now be claimed using the /vp claim command. This way players will no longer lose items because their inventories were full before they received the entirety of their rewards.
    • Our custom recipes are now available in the vanilla recipe book (the green book that you can find in your inventory/crafting table UI). This way you don't have to memorize them or check the info warp when you want to use them.
    • A while ago we introduced a command that allows you to delete a specific mail, in order to make it easier to identify them mails are now numbered.
    • There is a new /sell handall command that allows you to sell all items in your inventory that match the item in your hand.
    • Using a nether portal while in the nether will teleport you back to your island's spawn point.
    Cheating:

During the beta test we'll test out changes that aim to improve the cheating situation, many of you know that Skyblock avoids the use heavy weight anti-cheat systems that slow down the server and instead just focuses on fixing exploits. Not long ago we introduced a new system that makes certain illegal hacks and bots less effective. We're going to improve and extend said system which will make those things even less effective and on top of that will make it easier for staff members to find out who's using them. We will also introduce an experimental, lightweight, anti-cheat solution which aims to block all common movement cheats. A fluent and fun gameplay experience is our number one priority so in case any of those systems start causing problems for legit players we'll remove or change them if necessary.
    ⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯

There are probably other smaller changes that haven't mentioned. This has been a huge project which started back in early 2022 and has taken months to get to the current beta state. Keep in mind that this is not the project that got announced back in 2021, after a while we decided to cancel/delay it to update to a more modern version later on.

thanks to megan for helping me with this thread
