This is literally impossible to explain. Think about teaching someone to whistle, or to balance on a bike-- can't be taught.
Forgive the grossness, but: You don't pee yourself while sleeping? So you're constantly aware of your body even while unconscious. Do the same thing, but put your attention on stopping cold sores.
If it helps this is a lot like stopping hiccups. Same focus, same attention.
What...? No, rosacea is the literal expansion of blood vessels in your skin. That is like complaining about being white or black.
Hiccups and cold sores are something your body DOES. If your body •is• doing something then (spoilers!) you may have control over it. Shocking, I know.
It takes an annoying amount of practice but you can stop hiccups, sneezes, twitches, goosebumps, cold sores, etc.
This is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT something that cannot be explained to you. It took me several years to figure out how to stop hiccups and a couple more to quit having cold sores.
Annoyingly I can now GIVE myself hiccups by thinking about it. I have snapped awake a couple times just by dreaming of hiccups. #Goddammit
Wait, just remembered: Yawning. Imagine your best friend yawning. Mouth open, deep breath, etc.
More than likely just THINKING about it makes your body want to yawn. Think about how you feel and consciously DO NOT yawn. I am literally doing it right now just typing this.
That is the level of control you need. When you have it 100% of the time-- no more cold sores. Or hiccups. Etc. Best of luck.
Practice. No one ever rode a bike on the first try. Everyone peed the bed for months until figuring out that constant body-awareness. You CAN do it, but do you WANT to?
Yawning is 100% under your control. TOTALLY your option, you can choose not to open your mouth and yawn at any time. Just... don't.
Or... it's easier to just hide your lips for a few weeks. Your choice. #Coldsores
