My Mum had a Pneumothorax which means a collapsed lung. There was air trapped around the spaces of her lungs and this made it hard for her to breath. She doesn't need any surgery but she is having her lungs leaked through needle aspiration and she is also hooked up to an oxygen supply.
Luckily we think there won't be any serious long term damage. She is staying in hospital for a couple of days to rest and to get dat oxygen out. I really appreciate it that you were concerned, but tl;dr she will be ok.
