Hello, with map arts becoming more and more popular, certain blocks have gone up in demand, wool, clay, stone, etc. I'm proposing a sort of potential new crafting recipe to create terracotta at a reasonable rate.

The reasoning behind this is that terracotta is a unique block in terms of map art coloring, take this for example.

With certain colors being very limited, I propose that we use a new crafting recipe to create terracotta with dyes and quartz. Using 8 dyes of the same color around a quartz block could create the desired color of terracotta in coordinance with the selected dye.

Please read: i ask that you rate this suggestion based on the idea/concept of making terracotta easier to obtain. The numbers/crafting recipes can always be modified. Thank you for reading.

Terracotta is a BEAUTIFUL block, and it is always sad to have to pay so much for some nice decoration.
I would like to add to any potential readers that the recipe for terracotta will still be semirare, as it requires quartz, which trades for about 1 block each.

 

I'm on the edge about this.
Firstly I LOVE terracotta I think it is a wonderful block to build with. The colour range is amazing and does serve a very useful purpose of getting the right colour for map arts. But unfortunately I feel the addition of custom crafting recipes for the blocks would make the value of the block plummet. Terracotta is expensive in my opinion due it being such a beautiful unique block. I personally wouldn't want this to be spoilt from a diluted market.
On the other hand I do see the point of this suggestion as map art is coming more and more popular.

I feel like this suggestion will be very opinionated if implemented.

I like the idea of obtaining terracotta more however a quartz block is going to make it more difficult. Quartz are hard to obtain, even with a fortune III pickaxe. Even if you manage to get quartz, you'll get around 1-2. Fortune increases it from 2 max to 10 max but that's if you have a fortune 3 pickaxe.

I think maybe using smooth stone and clay to get terracotta and from there surround that item with any choice of dye would be better. Of course this isn't the only one, I literally pulled it from the top of my head. There's more combos I'll see if I can add them later.

I feel like adding this would just make the server even more modded.
The reason we have other special crafting recipes is so we can uncraft things like if I have to many of one type of glass or too many glass panes you can undue them.
There really isn’t any recipes for crafting things that are already craftable.

Just craft it the vanilla way I feel like adding this would just make it better for certain players as an advantage to them.

Not really, considering quartz is way more expensive than terracotta (as far as I know quartz is around 4 raw quartz per grass and terracotta is usually 10:1)

Oh I understand quartz would be not be a dilution of the economy as you said because raw quarts is hard to obtain. But I can see that other blocks being suggested too. Which in theory might cause an issue if the the block to block ratio isn’t the same price.

If a suggestion like this were to be implemented, terracotta sales would rise as, for example, map art creators would look for it more, as well as creating it for sales would be easier too. Yes it is expensive but because of that, players are highly reluctant to buy it.

Note for everyone reading this: because terracotta is not a form of currency, not a commonly used block, not included in kits, and very inefficient to obtain at the moment, i don't see how this suggestion would have any major negative effects on the server/server's economy.

 

the server has been modded a lot like limits on various things already many custom recipes. I'm pretty sure noobcrew wants the server to be a very vanilla type Skyblock.

Adding this makes it seem like you are trying to get this added just for map art or for yourself so it will be easier for people who make map art.

Whenever someone wants to make things out of quarts for example they don’t create a thread about making an easier crafting recipe for quarts. They go out farm for hours to use its and when it’s done people see that amazing work or building while if u built it out of cobblestone no one would really be “awed” by it same thing with terracotta.
with what lobh said above adding it would kinda take away that aw to the block its like using diamond bocks compared to cobblestone in a map art

Regardless of what noobcrew wants, bard simply added a suggestion. There have been custom recipes before, so bard had precedent.

I’m not even going to adreas that paragraph because it’s just a big ad hominem and not a real argument.

This paragraph suggests that bard is the only one on the server who wants this recipe added, and it’s just a decorative block. WHO CARES if it’s cheap or not. I could spend hundreds of grass making a dirt house, but it wouldn’t be valuable or look good. It’d still be ugly and I would regret spending all of my grass on it. Lemme know if I need to address any of your other points because id be happy to.

 

I'm not one to speak for noobcrew, but if he and the managers had recently acquired a new developer for the staff team, and the fact that the suggestions threads are commonly looked at by noobcrew, then I can assure you that my suggestion is still valid.

Your logic doesn't make sense here. For one, the note was added to address a question or concern I can foresee being mentioned, so it was simply a pointer. And I can use the same logic to address your suggestion too.

You're right, but all you need is a pickaxe, access to a portal, and maybe a bit of luck on your side to mine quartz. If there was a portal to a sort of terracotta mine, I can guarantee that this suggestion wouldn't have been created in the first place.

 

I wasn't trying to say your suggestion isn't valid, I was trying to further explain myself from a players perspective.

my suggestion has nothing to do with yours, I was suggestion the limit as a whole be removed for not just me but for every player which now has to wait 80 minutes to repair a basic set of armor, I feel like your suggestion only pertains to people who want to use a mass amount of a certain block for their builds.

If you spent time mining quartz or buy it your spending money (grass) same thing with terracotta all you have to do is buy clay for 12:1 smelt it then dye it. it takes time and money just like quartz.

Ok first off when was it ever stated that the server is vanilla-based. Also lemme just say all the apparent “mods” were developed to make the skyblock experience easier than on the map itself. It isn’t some crazy mods. If he wanted to keep it vanilla he wouldn’t have added those things lmao

 

Yes and no.
I LOVE terracotta and have been using it in map art aswell as glazed terracotta in my builds. But I don't think dying Quartz would be the way to go. I would love to get more blocks for my 'money' but its also kinda nice having to save up for something you like to build with.

Drogo is going to have to give no support to this for a couple of reason.

1. Drogo thinks map art is on the decline.
2. Drogo is about to spend a considerable amount of grass on clay/terracotta and for me and those that have already spent up on it. It would not be fair to see the price come down.

It isn't that expensive at 12 per grass.

As an alternative, perhaps we could have a clay kit added to shop.skyblock.

And back to the main topic:
I think terracotta prices are fine as u can reuse them unlimited times(for mapart). Once u have ur amount of all the colors u wont need more.
I think tweaks that are only brought up to change prices are not needed.
