I feel like we need a filter for spamming, especially to stop bots. Though I know people need to advertise their islands so it’s not really about how they send the same messages, but about how a message is sent too many times in a short amount of time. I don’t know about this because sometimes people just type fast and have good WPM and it might get annoying for them? Perhaps we could find a good uh...timing? Ratio? Or somethin’ so it can differentiate between spam and fast WPM. I don’t know if this was already suggested but I just wanted it out there. The bots lately are just oof. What do you guys think??

I fully support some type of filter, The problem has been very bad in recent days. Personally I think an automatic muting system would work the best.

We already have spam preventative filters built into console. If lee could tweak those, there wouldnt be a problem. If someone could give an idea thats not utter bull, id support.

Hmm I could see some problems with this if it would stop multiple of the same messages that would be great but I feel like this would not let us sending a message consistently so for fast typers who send out one message then quickly type another one I think it would stop them from being able to send it

I would suggest if a player sends more than 6 messages at a time, their message gets blocked. However, this wouldn't do much as most bots spam on multiple accounts, so neutral

I did suggest on Luv’s thread that new players would be put on a quiet tutorial server and would need to do the tutorial before being able to get into the hub/servers to chat. I think it’d be annoying and would deter spam bots and on a plus side, it helps new players.

From the last raids I've seen, it's not one player sending a lot of messages in one second. It's a lot of players sending 1 message every 5 seconds.

Apart from that, I believe there's some sort of prevention, although bots always find a way to bypass it. I support the idea as a whole, although I don't know if this specific suggestion would actually help.

There are already features implemented into the game that help defend against spam bots; however, like any feature, it is not perfect, and they are sometimes able to get through. If you would like to view the original thread, explaining what happens, you may do so here.

This anti-spam measure prevents spammy messages from being sent in the first place, which helps when multiple accounts are online, either sending messages very rapidly, or repeating the same message over and over. As stated in the thread, it is important to analyze accounts that manage to get through the spam filter, especially during large attacks similar to the one that happened earlier today, as it will help Leeeroieee understand how he can improve the feature. This feature should be able to stop attacks similar to the one experienced today, fairly soon, and is also able to differentiate between messages sent by actual players, and messages sent by spam bots, with quite a bit of certainty, meaning that it should not affect your gameplay in any way.

I am with you dude or rather allow us to report with screen shots and make it a temp banable offence. I am not the quickest and I don't use the in game bots to advert either. I understand we advertise and a lot of the people on the server very well may be children playing with adults. To cut the same log with a fully enchanted Dai axe for two minutes last night and taking 5 to clear a tall spruce tree rediculos. We couldn't even see shop adverts if we wanted to over just plain garbage spammed through.

Thank you all for the input and feedback.

I'm sorry that the recent spam bot incidents have been so disruptive. As others have mentioned, we have existing measures in place to protect against spam floods. We've reviewed logs from recent incidents and used them to add additional anti-spambot protections, so it should help reduce the frequency and severity of these types of incidents.

Unfortunately, no automatic system can be 100% effective against a determined and capable adversary with access to thousands of stolen accounts and open proxies. But if you find yourself online when a spam flood occurs that our system does not block automatically, you can make the experience less annoying by using the /quiet command to silence most chat messages. Once things have settled down a bit (you can usually tell just by checking the tab list) you can use the /quiet command again to turn chat back on.

And of course, if a spam flood does occur despite our updated protections, please feel free to take a screenshot with an example of the kinds of messages that made it through and post a thread in the Report Users section. It's not necessary to list the names of everyone involved or to provide multiple screenshots. A single screenshot is sufficient to allow us to locate the relevant logs so we can take appropriate action to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Thanks again for your input and for your kind patience.

I'm okay with how things are handled currently, Cyk and Michael did a great job dealing with them. I usually try to take a video when they happen to better assist the mods but I had to leave so I left it in their care. I know there is /quiet and I remind everyone about it during attacks, I just feel bad when mods and players have to deal with this, that's all. u vu

I realized something urgent has caught my attention. I have watched a video of the recent spam botter (who publicly announced their YouTube). Yes, spamming isn't that much of an issue, but what caught my attention is that they are mass teleporting players with a sudo type of command. I'm concerned about mass teleportations to a dangerous area (specifically mob areas). :c I dunno but it appeared to not be a “/sudo” because obviously it’s OP and usually no perms in any server. Well whatever they did, it just automatically made all the players do /spawn in which they all were squished to death.

That was a different server. You can't get squished to death on ours. :)
