I've been noticing that there are a lot of people that are confused about how some of the things work on the forums. I'm not sure if they'll be able to find this thread, but I figured I'd give it a try. :p

Read this first: Forum Rules | Skyblock Forums

Welcome to the forums! :D You've found your way to this thread, so I assume you've figured out the basics of finding your way around. That's good! But there's so much more to the forums! Let's start by getting you into the community...

    Replying to a Thread

Okay, so you've found a thread you like, you've read it and you have something to add! :D If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you'll find a text area. In there, you can type what you want to say, and then click on the "Post Reply" button. It's as simple as that!

    Posting a Thread

Perhaps you have a new message that no one is talking about yet. You can post a new thread. First, find the appropriate section to post your thread in. A question about skyblock would go in the "Help" section, while a thread showing off your island would go under "Discussion". Just use common sense to choose. :) At the top of the section somewhere there will be a "Post New Thread" button.

You can choose a title for your thread, write your message and even create a poll if you'd like. Then hit the "Create Thread" button, and ta da! You've posted a thread! :D

    ~ * ~ * ~

So there you have it, you're now chatting it up with the skyblock community! But what if you want to change a post you've made! Perhaps you noticed a typo, or that you wanted to add in something else. Or maybe you've decided that you want to get rid of the post completely.

    Editing, Deleting & Replying

    The bottom of each post looks like this;
With an Edit, Delete, Report and Reply button. (Note: You'll only be able to Edit/Delete your own posts :p).

If you click Edit, on one of your posts, this window will appear.
Change your text however you want and then click "Save Changes". It'll be like what you first wrote never existed! (Except that the mods will still be able to see the old version if they need to. ;) ).

If you click delete, a small window will pop up, asking for the reason you'd like to delete your post. Fill in the reason, and then click to delete it. Warning, you will not be able to get your post back once you've deleted it, and will have to retype everything if you decide that you shouldn't have. (Again, the mods can still see your deleted posts.)

Report is used to report posts that you think break the rules of the forums. You likely won't be using this for your own posts, but other posts. :p

Finally, that "Reply" button. The reply button will create a quote of the post you clicked it on, down in the text box. :D
    [IMG]
    It'll look something like this,
Then you can type your message in, before or after the quote and post it in the thread. :D

    ~ * ~ * ~

    Attaching a Picture

Alright, so you're making a report and need evidence screenshots, or want to show off your amazing island to everyone. You're going to need to put the pictures in your post. Sure, you can post pictures by link (much the way I have in this thread), but the easiest way is just to upload your screenshots directly into the thread.

At the bottom of the text box is the "Upload a File" button. Right beside the "Post Reply" or "Create Thread" button.
When you click this button, a window will open and allow you to select a file from your computer, then click "Open". The file will upload and be ready to post.
If you decide not to post the image, simply click that little delete button. Otherwise, when you click "Post Reply" or "Create Thread", your image will be attached to the post and members of the forums will be able to click them, and see them.

Making Spoilers and Posting Hidden Content

Spoilers are good for hiding spoilers, possibly offensive material (with a warning before the spoiler) and reducing the space taken up by large walls of text or large images. They can also just be fun. :p Making a spoiler is quite simple...
    Spoilers look like this...

Hidden content, can only be viewed by the one who posted it, and the mods. It's used for posting sensitive information, that should only be trusted with the mods (such as island coords, transaction ids, and other sensitive information). Hidden content is made by...
Remember that other players will see the hidden content differently then you do.
Of course the mods will also be able to see it. Also, keep in mind that mods use hidden content to communicate sensitive information with each other. So if you see a lot of hidden content in a thread, don't be worried, it's just the mods discussing the situation.

    Tagging People and Alerts

At the top of the forums, off to the right side, is your username, "Inbox" and "Alerts". When you click on alerts, there will be a drop down with your alerts. You will get alerts from threads you are watching (which happens automatically when you create a thread, or when you post in one), also when someone quotes you in a thread, or when someone tags you.

As tagging someone in a thread gives them an alert, it's the easiest way to draw their attention to something. If you are talking about someone in a thread, or have something you want them to see, you can tag them! It's quite simple to do, just @ and the username.
The tag will appear blue, become a click-able link to their profile and send them an alert.
    keeper_of_flame
Make sure that you spell their forum name correctly, or else the tag will not work. :O

    ~ * ~ * ~

So now you know mostly all there is to know about threads on the forums. However, threads are not the only thing on the forums! There are also profiles and private messages (pms).

    Member Profiles

Everyone who has signed up for a skyblock forums account has a profile. Profiles give information about that member. Information like their post count, ratings, trophy points, followers, who they're following, their recent activity and posts, their status, and possibly some personal information!

To view a members profile, click on their username, somewhere on the forums. You're likely to get a popup similar to this....
Simply click on "Profile Page", to see that member's profile. You also have a profile, and can click on your username to see yours. :D

Now along the left side of the profile will be this module.
The picture is the member's avatar image. (I'll explain how to change your own a little later).

Messages is that member's post count. This is how many posts they have made on the forums (not how many threads they have created, but how many times they have posted in general). Keep in mind that Off Topic posts do not count towards the post count, and deleted posts will be removed from the post count. (So if your post count drops, likely a thread you posted in was removed.
Trophy points are special points that member's can earn by completing certain tasks. To see which trophies the member has earned, click on the blue number (in the example image, the 89). A window will open, showing the trophies. From there you can click "View All Available Trophies", if you want to see all the trophies you can earn. :D

Warning points are given out when a member has broken a forums rule. They are given out by a mod, and can expire.

Positive / Neutral / Negative ratings all have to do with the rating system. This is the total number of positive (Like, Agree, Funny, Winner, Informative, Friendly, Useful and Creative), neutral (Disagree, Optimistic, Old, Rude and Bad Spelling) and negative (Dislike) ratings that the member has received on their content. Further down on the profile, there is a break down of how many of each of these ratings that the member has gotten and given!

Edit: There was once a Dumb rating, but it has been removed. Updated the status of the other ratings.

    About Ratings

Also displayed on the profile are the member's followers, and who they follow. Following is a feature of the forums that allows you to see the people that you follow, in a module to the right side of your screen on the forum list, when they are online. It can help you keep track of when your friends on the forums come online. :D You can follow someone by clicking "Follow" on their profile. A member's followers are the people that have chosen to follow them on the forums.

There are also Ranks, which are displayed on the member's profile and under their name on forum posts.
The member ranks are based off of the amount of trophy points that a user has.
    New Member (0 - 19 points)
    Member (20 - 59 points)
    Active Member (60 - 179 points)
    Well-Known Member (189 - 219 points)
    Experienced Member (220 - 279 points)
    Senior Member (280+ points)

There are also the staff ranks; Trial Moderator, Moderator, Super Moderator and Admin. Most of the time, there are accompanied by a server either Net, Org or Hellblock, depending on which server they are a mod on (or most active on for Super mods). Staff ranks are obviously, only gotten by becoming staff (meaning that a member was promoted by an admin).

    Statuses, Profile Posts and Comments

Profiles are not just for information, it's another place for communication on the forums. :D First, there are member's statuses. A member's status will be displayed on their profile, and in the little pop up when you open the window.
To update your status, go to your profile and type in the text box that says "Update your status..." and then click the "Post" button. Statuses are limited to 140 characters. :D

This text box appears when you view the profiles of other members too, except it says "Write something...". If you type something in this box and press "Post", you will have written a Profile Post, on that member's profile.

Now sometimes, you may want to respond to something someone said in a status, profile post or comment. This is where comments come into play. On the right side of Profile Posts there is a button that says "Comment". If you click that, it will open a text box, under the Profile Post or Status (and any existing comments).
To comment again, or to reply to another comment, you will still click the "Comment" button on the original post, and the text box will open under the last comment.

    Customizing Your Forums Account

There are many things you can do to customize your account and fill out your profile. At the top of the forums, off to the right side, it should say your username, and then "Inbox" and then "Alerts". Click on your username to open up a menu.
Going into your "Personal Details" will bring you to a page where you can update your status, avatar, gender, choose whether or not to display your age and birthday, location, occupation, home page and whatever else you would like it to say on your "Information" tab on your profile. ;)

Also from the main menu, you can click on "Avatar" to change your forums avatar. When you click it, a window will open. Click "Browse" choose the image you want as your avatar, click "Open" and when the image uploads, click "Okay.". Tada! Fancy new avatar. :D

From this menu, you can also access "Signature", which takes you to a page with a text box.
Put in what you want as a signature and click "Save Changes". You signature will appear under all of your posts! However you can change it again at any time. :)

From this menu you can also access "Conversations" which are your personal messages and you can also access a lot of your account settings and preferences.

    ~ * ~ * ~

    Personal Messages

Personal messages, pms, conversations and your inbox all refer to messages that are sent between just 2 or more members. They're private because only the members who are in the conversation can see what is posted there. They're a good way to have conversations involving sensitive topics, or to talk with just a friend or a few, without the rest of the forums watching and giving their input as well.

To see your inbox with all of your current messages, you can click on "Inbox" in the top right corner.
Your most recent convos will appear in the drop down. If you click "Conversations" at the top of the drop down, it will take you to your inbox. One way to start a conversation is to click on "Start a New Conversation" in your inbox.
You will need to type in who the conversation is with in the text field beside "Participants", make sure to type in the forum names exactly of the people you want to talk to. Then fill in a title and write your message.

Another way to start a conversation, with one person is to click on "Start a Conversation" under the "Information" tab on their profile or on "Start a Conversation" on the pop up when you click their username on the forums.
This will open up the conversation window, with their name already in the "Participants" field. So you can just title the convo, fill in your message and send it. :D

You will also find an "Upload a File" button on conversations and can attach images the same way you do on threads on the forums.

    ~ * ~ * ~

There are other tips, tricks and things that can be done on the forums, but I believe that these are all of the basics. :D The more you use the forums, the more you will be used to them and the more you will learn how to do. It truly is a lovely community and the forums are where those from Net, Org and Hellblock come together to be on community.

    Enjoy! :D

    I had a question.

How do you make things big and small in a post?

Do you mean like, the text?

Just type out the text that you want, then highlight it, and change the font size.

Ends up looking something like this...

    Type out a sentence
. Highlight the area you want to be bigger or smaller.

    Is that what you meant?
