rule of thumb- link, not in friends list, never played a game with them(among other things)=delete
last time ive ever been tricked was... about 8 years ago.

one of the account stealing sites that looks exactly like the original, except you have to log in, but you can never log in. just brings you back to the log in screen, and then they have yo login info.

Being a CS:GO trader, here are some tips to avoid scambots-

-NEVER EVER EVER accept shortened links (goo.gl, bit.ly, etc.)
---Also, steamcommunify.com, steamcommunitty.com, etc. are viruses. Be sure to inspect links carefully.
-Always ask for imgur or gyazo image uploads, nothing like screenshot.com
-If they don't respond, they are a bot.
-They usually say "My main is not working, add him here (insert dummy steamcommunity link)", "Check this item out (fake image virus)"

    Scammers (real people, not bots)

-Ask for Steam Offers. Boom. Done. They can't scam you no way, no how. But be careful about image viruses, as stated above.
-Always ask them to go first with outside trades
-Use a middleman YOU trust, if they don't agree to go first.

(If I am adverting, let me know, these are only reddit and steam links)

Firefox users, this is helpful in case you do end up clicking one of these links for some reason: NoScript
    Chrome/Safari/Opera users, use Firefox.
    IE users, stop.

NoScript will not allow pages to run JavaScript, Java, or Flash unless you've whitelisted them. It's annoying getting safe sites to work sometimes, but if you have this enabled, most of these phishing links won't work at all. I absent mindedly clicked one before and nothing happened to me because of this.

A disclaimer, before someone decides to click these links and gets angry at me because their steam account is stolen, I can't guarantee this will stop all malicious links from being effective. But if it uses JavaScript, Java, or Flash, which is true about 99% of the time, you'll be fine. Also, if you open one of these links from your Steam overlay, it will open in your Steam browser and NoScript can't help you. Alt+Tab out of your game first. Never open links in your Steam browser anyway. Steam browser sucks.

It sends it through your friends account. For example, if my anti-virus software hadn't stopped it for me, it would have looked, to you, as if I had sent you a link and asked you to check it out.

..lets put it this way "hey bro, this website gave me free in game items thisisfake .com" sends red flags, even in any variation, also even if its for anything else.
most phish messages arent very tricky, since they are other people or bots, they just write some basic bs thats easy to spot, if it was human, they cant act like you. their message would be in a different tone.

most people have a tone online, me for example, i say lol or xD alot, and use alot of smiley faces. obviously not in this message, but normally thats what you see.
so if i sent it, itd look like "hey lol, this site legit gave me in game items through promos xD if you want heres the site, also if you think its fake just message me first or copy and paste in search bar to see if its legit :)"

and from a bot or another user, itd just look like what you wrote up top, or what i wrote in here earlier.

also, norton has a site checker Is This Website Safe | Website Security | Norton Safe Web

or just go to google and type "is this site safe" and itll show a few sites that will check a sites url when pasted in (norton will be the top one in results, if you dont trust me and links LOL)
