I want to start making youtube vids and just curious what kind of apps are out there and easy to use. I am using an Apple iMac
I use one called screencastify its an extension that runs on google chrome and is universal on devices. runs nicely and I don't experience frame drop. Screencastify website and heres the link to the chrome extension page Screencastify (Screen Video Recorder) - Chrome Web Store
Fraps records in amazing quality, but each video is about 4 - 8GB in size, which is asinine and a waste of memory! Camtasia is also excellent, it has less quality than Fraps, but the size of the files are more compressed.
Talking from years of research on this, personally, Mirillis Action! worked the best by far. It really depends on your computer, but personally, I found Action! the best. Other good ones are Fraps, Bandicam, DivX (I think that's what it was called).
This might be for linux only, but Kazam works great for recording vids :3 and its free and no ads... Try it
It's terrible on my laptop, but it worked quite well on the desktop. Again, depends on your computer.
