Could someone enlighten me on certain tips of using monster spawners on .net/.org?

    - any requirements to spawn passive mobs (when spawner is on the floor/above the floor)?
    - any requirements to spawn hostile mobs?

The idea is simple - to place spawner so that its room could be easily used for both spawning/disposing both passive and hostile mobs, wherever necessary.

    Thanks in advance.

You need it to be dark with hostiles, and you need it to be light & have grass under/next to the spawner to spawn passives.

If you are looking for a room that spawns both passive and hostile mobs redstone lamps would be the best way to go.

    I see, thanks for explanations!

Redstone lamp seems easiest way to control light level, yes.
