Ah :/ tbh it was very easy to be on top 10 before the new server when it was only two vote links
I fully agreed. I understand that there is no human intervention and is all computer generated the list. But I do feel the same way. I think that all players that vote for the sever should be rewarded each month. Maybe they could change it so that instead of rewarding just the top 10 players with 25$ gift card they could reward everyone with the maximum votes with 5$ each. Then everyone would be happy!
/Topvotes is a useless command if this is the case. I don't see why we have it. It just leads people to think they are going to win when they are clearly not. This causes a lot of frustration and anger. That's basically the system saying: "Oh, you're going to win this month, oh wait sorry no your not"
Or maybe you could change it so that each server has its own top votes so that there is no confusing between the servers...
I also feel that the way the votes is calculated is unfair. What happens if you vote at the exact same time everyday when you wake up but someone beats you just because they are in a different time zone? I think that gives players in certain times zones an unfair advantage. People aren't going to stay up to ridiculous hours in the morning, sacrificing their precious sleeping schedule just so they have a "fair" chance in trying to win top votes.
I have seen over the last few months more and more players getting frustrated that they have not won top votes.
I understand this is a privilege to be rewarded with something of significant value and the end of every month. But I feel That if people are trying for months on end without a reward they will stop voting all together.
I hope this reads well with you all.
I meant that running the /topvotes command on the /skyblock server doesn't reflect the votes of players who mainly play on /classic or /economy. Sorry for any confusion.
gg i guess?
The way Towo once told me how /topvotes works is one that comforts me more than the method being used now (time-stamps). Currently I would have to wake up before 6:00am on the last day just to have a chance at winning, and for some it's worse.
As for Towo's theory, he assumed that if that many people have the same amount of votes, 10 winners will be chosen at random (with alts and "extra" votes taken out). This makes it much less stressful for people watching the time and avoids complaints such as 'I was the first voter at the end but I didn't win', when it's actually difficult for players to see what goes behind the screen.
Can you suggest a fairer way to calculate the votes? I'm open to suggestions.
This month there were 26 players who voted every single day on all three servers, if you assume for the sake of argument that those who were short by only one or two votes were most likely due to votes simply not being received by us due to technical issues outside of anyone's control.
Is there a better way for me to select 10 winners from this list without number 11 feeling that the process is unfair?
Wouldn't picking 10 winners at random from the top voters lead to even more accusations of rigging the results? How could I ever prove that I hadn't tampered with the results if I'm unable to reproduce them on demand?
I do not doubt that is hard to receive comments from players that are deeming the top votes as unfair. I respect your patience and understanding
I think we need to take a step back and establish the reasoning and goodwill gestures of why we receive the rewards first.
The server wants to reward players that vote every in which they do so by 2 different reward types. Daily and monthly.
There is no issue with daily rewards as everyone gets a reward for voting daily (Grass and keys) The issue comes about when people do not get a reward for the consecutive voting reward. So we need to find a way to reward everyone who achieves the consecutive voting reward fairly. I have a few suggestions:
1. Create a tiering system. Everyone who achieves the maximum vote gets a 10-15$ gift card (Whatever you think is best) (This would allow the budget for month winners to be stretched over more people.) The people that did not obtain the the max votes as a result of "technical issue out of anyones control" could be awarded 5$ gift card up to a maximum for 2 votes missing.
(This method would be ideal as even if people do not reach the max vote they will still be rewarded with something. Thus giving them that extra determination to vote again in the following month.)
2. Use a raffle system. This one would be the most fun. Each month all of the top voters (including the ones lost votes to technical issues) are put into a raffle. (The first 10 players picked at random will receive the biggest prize (10$) the next 10 players (7$) the next 10 (5$) the next 10 (3$) So on, depending on the amount of players who voted everyday of the month.
(This method would add a sense of mystery to the voting system and urge more players to to obtain the top votes as they no even if they do have a technical issue they will end up with a prize no mater what. The raffle will take any bias and unfair judgement on the rewards out of the question as it will be completely random.
3. Is to scrap the whole idea topvotes and introduce a rewards scheme. So you could make every 3 votes worth a certain valued and then reward the players with the total amount as a gift card at the end of the month. This can also have a cut off point of 87 votes.(Or whatever fits the budget of 250$)
Example: Each 3 votes is worth 0.50$ at the end of the month everyone who obtained 93 votes would receive 15.50$, 90 votes= 15.00$, 87 votes= 14.50$ To obtain the extra 0.50cent on the gift card you have to reach the next level... Ie. 90 or 93
(This method would encourage more players to vote month every month as they will be guaranteed a reward even if there note was not counted as a vote)
All of the methods above are based on more than 10 players receiving rewards on a monthly basis. I have chosen to answer your question like this because I believe this is what players want. A greater chance of getting a reward even if it is a smaller prize.
These are just a few examples to maybe improve Top votes. In my opinion we should keep it how it is for the time being. I feel a change to top votes would upset players even more than keeping it the same. Just because players such as myself say it is unfair. It's only unfair because of the time parameters set by the voting sites themselves. And this is out of your control.
I would like to let you know that nothing is aimed at you Lee. The opinions of players thinking its unfair are just sour and greedy that they didn't get a prize this month. (Me included)
congrats to the winners!
two months in a row
I feel the exact same, also time zones play a big roll in this time aspect of calculating top voters!
All three are great suggestions!
Many new players who plan on buying a rank want to do so if the price is lowered or they receive the vote gift card.
But most of them won’t receive this gift card because there are long-time players who know the exact time to vote (a vote farm, if you will). Hence these new players hold off their purchases.
If these players receive even a $5/$10 gift card it will incentivise them to purchase something from the store.
That goes a little beyond complexity Lobh
A simple system is ideal. If Lee suggests time-stamps really are the way, then maybe it's useful if players get notified in-game when skyblock voting websites get reset (with global time given). Currently players only get notified on the minute they reset. Hard to prepare for that.
Say you pick the first 10 to get the top vote, what happens to the next 15 to get the top vote but are in a different time zone. I think 25 people should get a 10 dollar coupon rather 10 people get a 25, that’s just the way I see it.
It was stated by Leeroy I believe earlier there is no human intervention in the voting process. At the end of the month I believe you had 94 votes, and there was only a possible 93 to be achieved. (31 days of month x 3 voting websites = 93) You claim you didn’t exploit in any way, and so did other players. How, I ask then, did you achieve 94 votes? Well, simple really. You voted before Vote1 reset but after the monthly vote tally reset, a total flaw in the system for people who constantly but randomly vote. This needs to be addressed
You shouldn't post that here... but just join on like a different version and then join back and/or wait a while.
That's what I did
