Skyblock Suggestion: Earnable Ranks

    Of course players can still grind for donor ranks and buy them with grass if they wish, just like Krissy has mentioned.

    I just think that having obtainable ranks would be a good thing for both default ranked and donor ranked players. Donor ranked players would still be able to obtain the exact same obtainable ranks however Donor perks are likely to remain a lot better than the obtainable rank perks.

    All Skyblock has become about is having a nice island, making grass and selling items. Due to this players lose motivation to play more quickly. Implementing obtainable ranks is a win-win situation and gives both Donors and default ranked players incentive to play. It's a really good idea to reward players for all of their hard work without having real money involved.

    Okay, so what's the point of it? Downgraded Skyknight type rank where they get the tiniest kit and just a new color to their name? Then reconsider buying the Skyknight rank which would be just as bad.

    It’s nothing like a donor rank. They won’t change colour either. It may be nothing more than a prefix and a small kit. Remember this is a rank every player can obtain meaning donors too. So it’s not a big loss.

    The point of this idea has been stated at least 5 times. We are thinking about what will benefit the server and to keep new players from leaving so soon. This idea can be one of many things we do to help. Remember, the more people we can get the stay after they join, the longer this server lasts. People will still donate because the perks of free ranks are not going to be better.
    Plus what’s the harm in earning a rank rather than buying it? Nothing. Some people cannot afford ranks and are not good at trading. Are we going to punish those people by not giving them something to work towards?

    The server is highly donor centric. Every leaderboard is topped by donors. How can new players compete? What goals can the accomplish when people make the game about money?

    If this idea was going to hurt the server in any way I would not have supported it. I’d rather see the community thrive with everyone getting some benefit than think only about ranks and money.

    I actually like this idea, maybe if youre still a greenie and have been playing for years, you could get a dark green name.
    But also agree with Pancake so neutral I guess!

    I see like tags that would be grey would be cool, but just no i don’t really want this sorry. No support although I know being a greenie can be annoying, with a bit of time it really is possible and could be somewhat easy to trade ingame for a rank.

    Krissy and Mai basically already said everything I want to say, but as always, I still want to throw in my mini rant...

    On a server I used to run many years ago, we had "experience" ranks, along with regular donor ranks. Donator ranks always show up over experience ranks. Hovering over a players name in chat would should their donor rank along with their experience rank.

    If the experience ranks were something like "Noob -> Beginner -> Apprentice -> Veteran", you'd hover over someone's name in chat and see something like "Skytitan", then on the next line "Veteran".

    This wasn't done on Skyblock, so not sure exactly how you'd work them out. Generally, time spent in-game is a big driver. I stole code from other plugins to make it only count time actually spent playing the game, AFK or walking around in a small area wouldn't count towards time played. Along with that, you'd have various milestones, like generating cobblestone for the first time. Mining X amount of cobblestone/stone. Killing X amount of mobs. Little things like that are somewhat natural to progression, but still require some effort.

    Experience ranks had kits, but they were separate from donor ranks. Generally, the experience ranks would be very watered down kits, giving more basic things like pickaxes, stone/cobble, maybe some wood or food, whatever people think would work best.

    Experience ranks also don't show up in chat or the tab menu, only when you hover over someone's name in chat. This helps keep things as clean as possible. Alternatively, a prefix somewhere with just a number or a symbol is a non-invasive way to include these ranks. If you make experience ranks just tiers, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, you can use these numbers or roman numerals as prefixes. So you'd see something like "[Skytitan][V] RedstoneTrails". Even then, people generally don't like that, but it is a fun idea.

    You can also leave these prefixes limited to just non-donor ranked players, so that way they can stand out a bit easier without causing all of the donor ranks to become too prefix-y.



    Overall, I always strongly support free ranks. Even if they don't show-up anywhere other than /pi or hovering over someone's name, it still lets players feel like they're making a concrete form of progression, and gives them a small reward for their effort. Some servers skip the whole "rank" concept in general, and just make it so players have levels, where they gain experience from playtime and completing quests or other things like that (could go well with a reintroduction to the challenge system).

    Really, just anyway you can add that extra bit of affirmation letting players know that they're progressing goes a long way to help new player retention and give people things to work towards, especially during their first few weeks on the server.

    Could reintroduce a new challenge system because currently it has no purpose as it isn't functional

    New set of large amount of challenges, including ones where veteran/rich players have to take to complete where after say every 10 challenges you complete or so, you receive an experience rank on your playerinfo when you hover above the name. Gives a new purpose to playing the server and adds some actual accomplishment rather than whatever you personally decide is a good accomplishment to you. Could either just do all challenges unlocked like it has been in the past, Tier system where you have to complete Tier 1 to move to Tier 2 challenges etc, or just a straight line where you have to complete the one before to move onto the next. Just an idea

    I really like this idea, especially flaming's idea with the "dedication rank". It's a good idea, something to work towards and give incentive to those who might want to quit after a few months. Neat idea!!!

    Support and no support. I think that it’s a cool thing if it were to show up on like a ingl game GUI profile page but if it shows up as a prefix in tab and chat, then things might get hectic!

    I support the idea of an earnable free rank you can get from doing certain things like challenges etc basically what Krissy and Mai suggested.

    I remember when it was hard to get rares and trade them in for a rank a long time ago and now I see greenies get skytitan within less than 6 months maybe even lower where I on the other hand took me 3-4 years to just get Donor25 on classic lol.
