Noticed this from several days ago. With the Merged Mobs plugin we see giant groups of mobs as 1 single stacked entity. Well, these stacks of sheep no longer accept dye like they used to. How It Worked Before: Any 1 piece of dye was enough to recolor the entire stack of merged sheep. Kill 1 of the stacked colored sheep, and the remaining stacked sheep is still dyed that color. Example: Use lime dye on 500X white sheep, kill one, get 1 lime wool and the rest of the 499X sheep is still lime color. Use an orange dye on the currently lime 499X sheep. All 499X sheep turn orange and remain orange as you kill off the stack. How It's Broken Now: Use any one piece of dye on a stack of merged sheep. Only just 1 sheep that is the same color as the dye separates from the previous merged stack. The remaining merged sheep keeps the original natural sheep color (either white, gray, light gray, brown, or pink). Example: Use a lapis lazuli on a stack of 1000X gray sheep. 1 blue sheep pops off from the stack. The rest of the 999X sheep stay gray. Kill the blue sheep gets you 1 blue wool. Keep killing off the 999X gray sheep only gets you tons of gray wool. How this is Bad: Recoloring a stack of sheep was a wonderful way to conserve resources and an easy way to collect colored wool. Now with each dye used on the merged sheep, one sheep pops off the stack. It is a huge waste of time and energy to click 1000 yellow dye onto a 1000 sheep just to get 1000 yellow wool (only 1 wool drops off per sheep if killed, not sheared). Plus as each singly dyed sheep separates from the current main stack, the entity count rises and adds to server lag. Finally this is a huge and unfair inconvenience to players with little to no resources. Not every player has enough spare grass to fill up an animal pen to hold sheep for shearing. Not every player can supply themselves with massive stores of dye to recolor stacks of white wool. Also, apparently having a large number (exact amount not defined clearly in the list of server rules) of individual animals (not merged entities) is technically illegal in the first place. This gives skygods a clear advantage over anyone else in the wool business since they can just spam their /spawnmob sheep:<color> 2 command, kill them off before causing too much server lag, rinse and repeat. Conclusion: Please fix it so we can dye the entire stack of merged sheep again. It gives players a more even footing in the collecting of wool for the trading business or for personal use.
Actually, the legitimate way would be using 1,000 dye for 1,000 sheep. It's not really a bug as this isn't unfair. If anything, it's fair now. This is survival ;p We usually clear animals if it gets up to 200+, sometime 100 if lag is bad. I'm not sure why this was removed, but it seems like one dye dying more than one sheep is a bug. If anything, it's now not bugged. I understand why you'd want this, you get to save dye. However, it's more legit if it only dyes one sheep.
Playing legitmately would involve removing merged mobs plugin. I have had well over 150,000X Sheep. This is no where near a natural part of vanilla minecraft. This takes away from the experience of survival. One could argue that the point of this server/minecraft is not survival but automation. And trading is another huge aspect of this server. The third is the donor aspect with all the perks. 3 ranks of donors never have to eat again and are completely invincible. Fourth is building nice looking island plots. Natural mob spawning has been turned off (hostile and passive). Nothing on your island is going to kill the player unless they fall, walk into lava, or drown. There is no weather cycle. Fire does not spread. This server is not at all about survival even though the gamemode is set to it. Again, this is stated NOWHERE in the listed server rules. It was also never posted in the previous version of server rules. If you are going to enforce this then it should be clearly defined as an offense on the rules page to justify the slaughter of innocent mobs. Mobs do not cause a significant lag to the server, just to the player if you are close enough to the mobs so they are loaded in the chunks and start moving. I had a herd of about 600 sheep for 3 months or so on a lower portion of my island that no mod bothered about during laggy days. Using /lagg and then clearing out entities (whether they be mobs or dropped items) is just putting a tiny bandage on a giant sore. Server needs more dedicated admins to improve itself. Do not blame the users just for trying to play the game. The point is not just about saving the dye. It's about letting all players of any economic status access to a fairly simple building block which is not simple to come by. Again, there is nothing legit about this server. People have giant stone generators, tree farms, and mob grinders. This is an integral part of the skyblock experience since you have the challenge of limited building space. Automation is what keeps this server going, so kindly bring back dyed stacks of merged mobs.
Perhaps this was not the intention of the people that made this plugin. If I looked at the right plugin they have fixed the right click on mobs so that would mean dying sheep. To do what you want would involved downgrading the plugin. Something that wouldn't be done as the fixes help the plugin. And with the server lagging as it is I doubt Cyp would want to remove a plugin that helps.
Thanks for some context. If this change is truly because of an upgrade to the plugin, then I can understand and accept that. I shall try to look forward to more upgrades in the future.
Woohoo! Using dye on stacked sheep work again like they used to. No idea if that means cyp changed stuff again. Just hope this stays.
Just wondering if anyone has any idea if this will be a permanent thing now. That would be cool to know.
Mikamelody taught me months ago. It was better from before the implementation of the current system where fresh mobs from spawners disappear as chunks unload. Just right click sheep with 1 dye, and boom, done. Last night i afked at my sheep spawners, let them merge. Then i killed off a couple from each stack. Killing just 1 sheep from a freshly merged stack of sheep ensures it sticks around after you move away and unload the chunks. Then i logged off, came back, and was able to add dye to change an entire stack of merged sheep to another color.
