    Skyblock Updates - April 30th, 2025

    • We now have a redstone limiter in place, which is similar to what we used to have when we were on version 1.12.2, however it was lost during the 1.19.2 update. Matt re-coded the plugin and it was heavily improved.

This is more of a precautionary measure for stopping very massive machines that when activated, can severely lag the server. Adjustments will need to be made but the plan is not to restrict normal or medium sized redstone contraptions.

You may see event notifications relating to redstone for your island, or islands you are visiting or have been trusted on. Your redstone, piston, hopper, or dispenser machines will only be de-activated if they reach 100% of the set limits, so the messages that indicate any amounts under 100% are to notify you of how close you are to reaching these limits. After 5 minutes, the machines will be re-activated automatically, however they will de-activate again if changes are not made and the limit is reached again.

To be transparent, the limits are based on your island size and are calculated per 60 seconds, the following are currently what is set:

      - Redstone Event Limits: 100000 (default), 110000 (medium), 120000 (maximum)
      - Piston Extend Events: 10000 (default), 15000 (medium), 20000 (maximum)
      - Hopper Item Transfers: 20000 (default), 30000 (medium), 40000 (maximum)
      - Dispenser Limits: 5000 (default), 7500 (medium), 10000 (maximum)

The plugin also replaces our previous limits for Hoppers and Spawners but will remain the same:

      - Hoppers: 48 (default), 72 (medium size), 96 (maximum)
      - Spawner, 24 (default), 36 (medium), 48 (maximum)

Furthermore, we are re-implementing limits on Minecart Hoppers which can be very extensive on the server, the limit is:

      - Hopper Minecarts: 10 (default), 15 (medium), 20 (maximum)

Note: These limits are purely experimental and will be adjusted if needed. Please let us know.

    • Moss will now spread to ores.

When we introduced the ability for ores to generate from cobble/stone generators, it was never intended to be massive farmed. As stone can generate quickly compared to cobble, machines have been created by users to abuse the ore gen rates. The use of moss blocks also assist in doing so. By making it so moss spreads to ores, these types of ore gen machines will be less useful or intentionally broken.

These same changes apply to Economy, however I did mistakenly claim that stone generators will no longer generate ores, when they do still function.

    • You can no longer use your off-hand to place dirt in item frames.

    • An exploit regarding Tridents has been further patched.

    • Nether drops such as Quartz have been adjusted and a consistent bug of drop chances going negative have been patched.

    • Added island settings (/settings) for Composters and Cauldrons.
Please use this thread to post your feedback and suggestions. These changes as mentioned will likely be adjusted/changed.

Special thanks to Adriansop and matt

    Two questions.

Can we get some further clarification on how the limits work? For instance, are the limits for redstone/redstone components over a period of 24 hours, from restart to restart? Is this a limit of how many events can occur over a period of 60 seconds, or is that how often the plugin calculates how many events have taken place? Additionally, are these limits going to be enforced if a player who is not trusted, nor placed the blocks, activates the contraption?

My second and final question is this; if this update does not have the desired effect on increasing TPS, will any or all of the limitations on redstone and its components be reverted?

I'd like an answer to my questions. If the new changes and limitations are designed to lower TPS, and they do not accomplish that goal, then they need to be rolled back. If however, the TPS does not improve, and these changes are not undone, then the intention of this update was not to increase TPS, but instead to limit redstone functionality and player creativity. You owe your dwindling community answers Noobcrew, Adriansop, and Justmatt.

Your absolutely right, I am sorry. It is not my intention to cast doubt, insult, or insinuate nefarious intent of Crew or any of the moderators or developers. I simply would like a reasonable defense for the actions that have been taken.

I would like to mention that while I claimed that player counts are dwindling, the information on skyblock.onl shows otherwise. It could be chalked up to the Easter drop party, and the recent introduction of mob arena, but rather than claim any success is merely incidental, I retract my statement and offer my sincere apologies.

There seems to be a lack of communication between the skyblock team and the community at large. Certain players are (claiming to be) receiving information, while the rest are left in the dark. Information about what changes are being made to the server need to be posted here. I understand that some things are seemingly small changes, but the vast majority of players not knowing why they were struggling to interact with pets on their island, nobody knowing why /back was broken, and tridents becoming almost less functional than swords for months is categorically wrong. Both staff and Crew himself are reading the forums, logging on to the server, and are yet refusing to answer legitimate questions.

These changes effect your loyal players, who have spent hundreds of dollars individually, thousands collectively, supporting their favorite server. Imagine creating something beloved by many who dedicate hours of their personal time to, spend their hard earned money on, and actively participate in attempts to create a better experience for all involved, and then neglecting the community that wouldn't exist without you.

It's exhausting to work on creations custom to the skyblock.net experience, then be told out of the blue that you are abusing mechanics that have been in use for 8-9 months. If ore gens are not part of the vision for skyblock, so be it. Only one person mans the helm of this ship, and what they say goes. But a little bit of transparency, which has been claimed to be valued, would go a long way.

We need a redstone limit plugin in place, it was not smart to be running the servers without one for all this time since the 1.19.2 update.

There's a video from a few years ago where a player built a massive redstone machine on Skyblock Survival where when being activated, would lag the server immensely or crash the server outright. I honestly couldn't find the issue for weeks until the player bragged about it and posted it on YouTube. The use of redstone is inherently resource extensive and there's limitations on mostly all servers for this reason.

I don't believe TPS will increase dramatically, but the difference will still be there on potential stability. We have had some users on Economy with machines capable of dropping us 4-5 TPS when loaded, but overall however, most users do not contribute any noticeable lag to the server with very basic/small contraptions, it is more or less a combination of everyone's machines all at once where redstone negatively affects the server's performance.

With this plugin, our TPS problems will not be solved, but it definitely could inhibit some future instances where the server gets laggier than usual from redstone. The plugin is mostly to stop the severe/massive machines, while allowing most things.

We aren't going to revert these changes, it is best to fine tune what we have so we find a limit that is acceptable for the majority of the community. If you were to see our current limits, allowing upwards of 100,000 redstone events in 60 seconds for one island is a bit crazy to think and is obviously not limiting redstone creativity or an effort to upset the community. If anything, stricter limits would probably encourage more creative and functional redstone designs by users having to make things more compact and efficient.

It's hardly an excuse but we honestly wouldn't have to deal with so many TPS and lag issues if Minecraft wasn't notoriously single-threaded and/or if Mojang a decade ago decided to prioritize multiplayer servers when updating the game. We would easily hit 500+ players on Minecraft 1.8.9 with hardware from 2014 but nowadays can't perform well with 150+ players on far more advanced hardware (and plugins, etc) in 2025 on Minecraft 1.19.2. There's other ideas we have in mind to increase performance but it can take some time.

At the end of the day it is what it is, got to do what must be done.
But a 10-20-30 hopper limit would be more than nice.... (in my specific case 32 for max island for 2 sorters on one island)
Mapart islands with auto-sorters for carpet/wool would *need* this, esp bedrock accounts that only needed a single island upgrade.
Currently I have autosorters on multiple mapart islands, including bedrock accounts.

There's 16 colors of wool, and a 15 minecart hopper limit wouldn't be very cool for a mapart island with 1 expansion.
If not 10-20-30, then at least make the medium expansion 16 minecart hopper limit.

AND it would encourage people on both servers to max out their islands, not just mapartists. More money flowing in, or more active servers as people try to vote daily to get the gift cards to pay for expansions. Win-win!

Hoping that my late response doesn't mean it's too late to make changes. Had to process.

10, 20, and 30 seem like weird numbers for hopper minecarts. How about 12, 24, and 36? :eyes:

I still would like to hear an answer to decepjr's question about if visitors can just mess up redstone for the whole island. For example, look at the screenshot I provided. This auto kelp farm is tiny. It uses TWO dispensers and it still reached the limit. Never mind any other dispensers on the island (which by the way, there are no other dispensers being used on my alt's island. Which is kind of my point. That's brutal. Can this be raised or anything?)

Also, what happened to /limits? Wouldn't this update be a reason to update and KEEP the information under /limits? Hopper don't even tell you how many you've placed already when you place a new one now.

We will make changes to the limit again to match the numbering of current hoppers, though the max will still be 30 or above.

    For hoppers currently, the limit is: [ 48, 72, 96 ]

We could change the limit to [ 50, 75, 100 ] if that is more easily understood.

    Or leave hoppers the same and change the hopper minecarts to [ 8, 16, 32 ], or like you mentioned [12, 24, 36], instead of [ 10, 20, 30 ]

Also /limits is on our to-do and we will try to get it out within the week, along with showing the hopper and spawner limit as before, we will need to add the limit for hopper minecarts as well.

Will attempt to show on-going events on your island too, such as redstone, piston extends, dispensers, hoppers, etc, within the 60 second timeframe, so it is easier to figure out how close you are to hitting the limits. We need to make sure this doesn't cause issues or additional lag calculating all of this.

    50, 75, 100 hoppers and 12, 24, 36 hopper minecarts sounds great :3

Also, glad to see composters/cauldrons are fixed. I've wanted to use them in redstone but couldn't, haha. And nether bug being fixed is great as well. Good stuff.
