    Abstract
What if players could turn their islands into truly dangerous dungeons, mob obstacle courses, or roleplaying adventures! With this suggestion, they can!

    Watch the Video:

    How Things Work Now: PvP
Currently island builders can enable PvP on their island in /settings, and players can opt in to PvP by using the /pvp command. While these settings are on, players can not only take damage from other players, but from the environment as well. Cactus, lava, and even mobs all do damage to players with /pvp on while on an island with PvP enabled.

    A New Variation: PvE
I propose creating a modified version of the PvP island setting called PvE (player vs. environment). When this setting is turned on, players who opt in to a corresponding /pve command take environmental damage. This makes it identical to the existing PvP paradigm, but players cannot hurt each other.

Some Islands with Rewards Might Require PvE
Further, I propose a separate island setting called PvE Required (or something similar) that locks the island to all players who do NOT have /pve enabled and prevents players on the island from disabling /pve, instead yielding a message "That command cannot be used here." This allows players that build dungeons with real rewards to prevent players immune to the dangers from claiming those rewards.

    Dealing with /god
Lastly, I propose that the /pvp and /pve commands disable /god when they are used and give players notice of that. Alternately, entering an island with PvE Required could disable /god and prevent it from being used while on the island.

    What Does This Enable?
Players will create dungeons that have real rewards at the end (e.g. a dropper with a signed book or a diamond) and that require payment to enter (e.g. a shop that opens a piston door when a payment is made). This is similar to the casino model of controlled risk and reward, but replacing games of chance with skill, preparation, teamwork, etc.

Some players will compete to make the coolest, most deadly dungeons, while others will compete to collect proof that they've defeated those dungeons (e.g. signed books). Imagine a wall of trophies showing you’ve bested some of the toughest dungeons that players have built!

The danger and sophistication of these dungeons will get greater and greater over time as more are built, just as is happening with casinos and other games. Some dungeons will require multiple players to work together to defeat them, such as having to press 3 wooden buttons at the same time (possibly via arrows) while mobs are spawning all around you.

Players who get bored building and leave the server will instead find new excitement and new challenges with this game mode on the server! And other players will be regularly adding new challenges to be overcome! We can likely expect a new map, similar to /warp hostile in challenge if not in scope, every few weeks!

    Wouldn’t This Allow TP Killing?
Not any more than enabling PvP does. In fact, the risk of TP killing here is less, because players can’t directly harm each other. It is entirely opt-in on the part of the visitor and if the island requires PvE to be enabled, then visitors are choosing to take that risk by enabling /pve, turning off /god (if applicable), and visiting that island.

    What About Deadly Island Spawns?
The server would simply make a rule that island spawns must be safe for visitors (no spawning into lava) and would address it like any other illegal build. This is essentially the same as any other illegal build or scam, though it would be easier to get proof of it.

What Happens to a Player’s Items If They Die?
That’s entirely based on the mechanics of Minecraft and whoever is nearby, just as with /warp hostile or the Nether. The island owner might be in a position to recover them, at which point they get to choose what to do with them. This is all part of introducing controlled risk and reward to the game. Just like many players lose a lot of stuff at casinos, it’s possible for players to lose stuff by entering dungeons.

Of course, another option would be to implement keepInventory on islands with PvE Required, though that would dramatically reduce the risk side of the controlled risk/reward model, which means the rewards would necessarily be dropped (i.e. completing a difficult dungeon would no longer be a great accomplishment).

    Summary
So, in summary, this suggestion is to:
    1. Create a PvE Island Setting that is a subset of the current PvP functionality
    2. Create a /pve command that is a subset of the current /pvp command
    3. Create a PvE Required Island Setting that locks the island to players who do not have /pve enabled and intercepts the /pve command, preventing it from being disabled while on the island
    4. Make the /pvp and /pve commands disable and prevent /god while they are in use, or alternately cause entering an island with PvE Required to disable /god (as with /warp hostile)

I think instead of making it so it forces god off every time you use the command, it could be made into an island setting like /fly. If you visit someone’s island, if they have fly disabled a message gets sent saying “this island has flight disabled”, it could be similar to that to where you disable god the same way.

Support, but I doubt this would be added as an update. There are alot more stuff SB is focusing on RN like environments and having the server run properly. Or alot of other potential improvements like slacking the anticheat abit for maparts placing to work better for example.

So far what I see people doing are parkour and mazes. No damage done to the player but most parkours will cause the player to fall into the void but /is is a way to not die.

JayrothD is one of the island that has an amazing maze. One is jungle and one is the main maze. The jungle only has 1 room to be discovered from my knowledge and you have to climb up at the correct spot. Main maze is super big and amazing, alot of scenes and it's very cool to explore.

Your idea is still very cool for SB to think about and maybe consider. Good luck.

I think this idea has a lot of potential. I think something simpler like adding an item such as an enchanted armored mob spawner for zombies, skeletons, and creepers would be a way to make these more challenging and fun.
There is the issue of armor from the mobs being used in furnaces to make iron and that might affect the economy. One way to fix an issue with that would be removing the ability to smelt armor into nuggets.
*edit* Another way to fix this is by reducing the spawn rate of the boosted mobs but increasing their enchantments or armor. This can give players an incentive (armor and loot drops) to participate
Adding something like this would give people who want to make builds like a dungeon crawler or a PVP/PVE arena with prizes given out by the owner or even based on a plug in that can track kills (I don't know how that would work, just an idea).

I think such a "PvE mode" is already on the to do list. Personally I think everything that strengthens the community aspect of the server is great, unsure if we'll actually call it PvE mode and how exactly players will interact with it but the general idea sounds good.
