Hello, Skyblockers! Let's face it, we all know it: More an more people have quit skyblock since their first time. Our numbers went from 300+ all the way down to an average of 120 players. Now, I am not saying skyblock is dead, but all I am saying is the numbers have dropped over time dramatically. So let's just get to the point. Why is skyblock losing so many users? Explain exactly why you think it is losing players. This is not for a grade, and it will not go on your record. Do not just say "Skyblock is dead period.", or "Minecraft is dead." (Yes, people say that, and I think it is peculiar because they are on a forum based off of a Minecraft game...) EXPLAIN WHAT YOU BELIEVE SHOULD BE ADDED / REMOVED TO MAKE THE GAME MORE ENJOYABLE. Sure, let's make this a suggestion thread...
I don’t know what you think but in 2017 Skyblock couldn’t get more than 100 players now the average player base is most of the time above 100. Some people may quit but that way they make space for other stuff to join. You can’t expect us all to play Minecraft till we die aye. Edit: Also you can’t expect one server dedicated to just one gamemode to last for more than 5 years with constant playerbass of 300 +
The reasons for the decline are simple but many. I've seen the server at its best and worst. The improvement has been small but it is enough for us to keep afloat.
Like anything, it will eventually lose its momentum. The most important factor in a server is the community which will be the leading cause if the player decides to stay or not. Thereby, if they are able to make the server more memorable, which they have, more players will stay which is quite obvious considering there are more players than there have been in a while. Many have left since they are pursuing their ambitions rather than spending their time on a game that will not benefit them in the long run. The list continues, but it’s just random when it comes down to it when the server will have a large amount of players or not.
We’re lucky that we’re getting 100 players on at most times. In my timezone we’re never at less than 70 players online. That’s a lot better than the 30 we were getting on Classic this time last year.
Pretty much what Laini and Rolly said but at the times I am on, we usually see tab full whereas during the same times during classic last year, tab had 1 sometimes two columns. I don't think it is exactly dead because it is achieving higher numbers than late last year Oh and also, the inclusion of the "Welcome MrABGold To Skyblock" when someone new joins highlights that a lot of new players do join because that message is rather frequent. They do not always stay but quite a few do
I think 100 players is a lot already, but as they say the more the merrier. I don't think the servers dead when chat's moving as fast as it does during the day in my timezone.
Wait until the seasonal drop parties and whoosh 200-300+ players then after the dp ends there will be around 100 players tho the player count is good... for now
The server just needs to offer more of a player biased friendly environment that welcomes all ages fairly. Lets face it, if a child is on the internet. They're going to see swear words. Having these strict chat rules are dumb as hell. I would understand no name calling or swearing at others type of rule but even self filtering can get you muted. I get this is skyblock, but there needs to be more servers to go to. For example, sky grid. or factions. just becoming a multi-platform server but as the main server should be skyblock. And the criteria to becoming a mod is absolutely stupid. It's all based on popularity, and if you're not even active on discord people will no support you, which is bs considering its not even forums or in game. I doubt the server owners even speculate the mod apps. considering they don't even play and observe how the players act in game.
Not enough is offered to make this server different than other hub servers that offer Skyblock. No one's just going to dedicate themselves to one server with one game mode. This place lacks variety and lacks extras. It's a simple "build your island and converse with other players" server. For the past 4 years it's been a server of "who you know". I've seen players struggle because they aren't "known". 6 years ago that wasn't the case. It's just a cycle of just being out of date and hard to get attached to.
Many players leave because they don't know how to play. The cobblestone generator model at spawn is essentially useless, because most new players don't even take the time to explore spawn before typing /newisland. Many many times I have seen new players quit after a few minutes, since they don't know what to do and there's no clear explanation of what the server offers. Quite often, the question of "How do I check my balance" comes up in chat. This question might seem simple to a more experienced Skyblock player, but it also betrays the absolute ignorance of new players on server rules and features. I think the inclusion of a mandatory tutorial would help greatly. Something that walks new players through the steps of creating a cobble gen, farming a tree, explaining the economy functions, and taking them to different warps like /warp trade, /warp mob, and other places. This would help retain more players, since fewer people would just quit from not knowing how to do anything. My island is literally surrounded by barely touched starter islands, and /seen told me that the island owners haven't been on in months. A tutorial would help reduce the number of these islands, as people would be less likely to abandon.
It is because people joined many years ago when they were little and now theyre old and lost interest in the game.
or that they're older than literally 60% of the community and the rules are complete garbage lmao and they need revamped.
If Skyblock did better updates and fixed every bug. We would get to 150+ players possible. Years ago, we had 300+ players on classic online.
I've explained this once before to you. I'll just copy and paste what i said.... the numbers got low as the staff quality got worse. they chose quantity over quality yet still failed to provide active staff members. there was also a major lack of communcation between the owners and players for a solid 3-4 months. now - what can we do about this? Absolutely nothing. They could advertise, but i don't see that happening, they did it once or twice with skydoesmc, got their playerbase, interacted with them at the time, then stopped after most people gained a solid group of friends. was this intentional? i couldn't tell you. They didn't push out any updates for 2 years almost, the game mode became as bland as a mayonaise sandwich. they killed their own server. Skyblock is a DEAD GAMEMODE get it thru your head. there is NO popular skyblock server skyblock is over played. skyblock isn't going to be revived. sorry to crush your dreams
Because Minecraft itself is dying and thr new generation of kids want their hands on the best games now, like fortnite and (surprisingly) GTA v
Fun little graph for all you graph lovers out there. Red is Minecraft, blue is Skyblock. I absolutely respect not jumping on the "Skyblock/Minecraft is dying!" bandwagon, because that does make people want to abandon ship, however, it's a plain fact that Minecraft is decreasing in popularity as a game. I believe that Skyblock is doing quite well for itself, considering (better than Mineverse is, for one). As you can see in the graph below, the blue Skyblock line is quite high and close in relation to Minecraft's overall popularity. Not to scale, mind you. There aren't actually that many people Googling Skyblock, it's just so you can see the correlation between their respective popularities. The most important take away is that it's not changed that much in relation to MC's overall popularity since the "good old days" (really, it's gotten better), so really blaming any huge change in popularity on anything other than the number of people playing the game is a stretch. I believe that the development team and the Skyblockers, in general, are doing a great job, better than they have in the past, in trying to improve the server. Lots of regular new features to keep players interested, and a relatively active and non-toxic community. There is a suggestion section too, no need to make a thread on how to improve Skyblock when there's a whole sub-forum
