I think that .net should have a report feature where it does not need to be done through the forums. This would be for small things that occur in the chat only. /report would ask for a player name and a message from the reporter to explain the violation. /reporthelp would list guidelines for appropriate things to report.
It might read like:
=====Report Help Page (1/1)=====
Spamming the chat: More than 2 messages per window can be reported, besides auctions
Advertising: Talking about other servers is not good
Capslock: and so on...
Hate messages should be reported on the forums (insert link)

EDIT: Just to clarify, this would be for very small things in chat. Evidence would be the chat logs, which mods can check. Probably all mods would get mail or something. Other words.

EDIT 2: I have been informed that a very popular server whose name starts with H already has a system like this. They have /chatreport [player] [reason] and it grabs their recent messages and makes a report that staff can view.

Support. I don't think it's worth the effort to make a whole new thread on reporting someone for writing a message in Caps lock or something. So having an in-game report method for smaller problems like chat or even scamming I'd think would help a lot

You could implement a cooldown, probably 20-45 minutes. This would deter /report spammers and not significantly affect the real report usage. You probably won't see 3 offenses within 2 minutes of each other. Even if somebody spammed, it would take a long time for a large amount of fake reports to show up. Also, imagine a guy spamming /report with bad words. He is literally reporting himself.

Edit: Should be lower, about 10 minutes.

That could encourage people even more to do it, I really don't know just a crazy thought.

 

It would be more work for the staff, but it does have it's benefits I think.

No. 45 minutes is wayyyy too long. There are so many people spamming in chat when moderators are not online, or sometimes there are really nasty discussions / fights going on between 4+ people. I'd say the cooldown is 2 minutes MAXIMUM.

No support, when there are no moderators online, there is almost always a moderator on the Forums. Reports are for when there are no moderators online to help. Reporting on Forums is quicker.

Also there is no way to show proof.

 

I think this is for things less serious, because I don't think it's worth the time and effort to make a whole new thread because someone was spamming. This is easy to prove you could just /report someone and mods could check chat logs.

I'm pretty sure Hiveria is referring to contacting a moderator so they can come online, not posting a report.

 

I like the idea. If it was possible to make it work, I would support this. But I don't think it would be quite that easy, especially finding a way to provide evidence.

O WAIT I HAVE AN IDEAAAAAA
For the smaller things like spamming and caps and such, a mod could make one thread where players report stuff like that there. So players are still reporting things on forums, just not filling up the report section with spamming and caps threads, It's all on one thread. So like all the report for spam and caps are replies to that thread.

 

I like the general idea of an in-game report functionality for chat offenses.

You could definitely automatically create evidence on chat offenses by recording every player's chat messages (last 10 for example), and then when a player is reported with the in-game command, have the plugin automatically create a thread on the forums with that player's last 10 messages and the report reason. So this would allow the moderators to use their same report system, however creating a report thread on forums would take less than a second.
