This was patched.
The main reason Hoppers won't be added is because there's a massive duping glitch that requires them, and if they're added, then duping will become a problem easily.
Also, there's a lot of threads that suggest this already. Look for those, as this one isn't necessary.

I completely agree with this, this basically is why Hoppers won't be added, although having them would be nice in some cases.

Guys, sometimes just use the correct part of the brain to think. There is island protection and logblock, if they steal, won't mods know who placed the hopper? The brain is powerful

 

On net, sure. On org, its not that easy. We don't dont have a working logging agent (Coreprotect).

I love hoppers as do many others but they're just too damn dangerous.
Chests can be looted easily, duping glitches can be performed in various ways and worst of all hoppers can lead to an EXTREME amount of lag. I had experience with this on my own server and an old server that shutdown. They are very helpful but I can't say it'd be even the least bit safe to add them back. Especially since 1.9 is around the corner, there will be many bugs!

 

If it can be or is patched then I don't see why not.
