We could use a plugin that disables mapart copying!

A way of doing this could be by using the cartography table and combining the art with a red glass pane (similar to locking an art, but instead it disables copying of that art); or a similar method.

A plugin like this would benefit mapart creators so that their art is never copied and resold/redistributed without permission.

that or, as long as the original creator keeps copies that weren't red paned, then they can still make copies to sell.

 

Makers might feel a bit more incentivized to make larger more complex maps if they knew their final products could be protected from resale. Might bring a new wave of fresh art IMO. Support.

Id think red glass makes sense seing how you lock maparts using glass panes already. Just add red stained glass for the ones you wanted non copyable. The plugin could then simply lock that map I'd to restrict further copies being made. This could be done to any pre locked maparts too by placing the panel in the cartography table

Think of adding a glass pane as putting a picture in a frame. You can't draw on the map while it's in a frame. Iron bars symbolize that the map is inaccessible. You can see what's behind the bars, but you can't take it, or in the case of maps, make copies.

 

I get that, but that's requiring extra resources that aren't already linked to a cartography table. Iron bars compared to glass panes which are already used wouldn't make as much sense. But sure. I still support the op idea

 

Glass panes are used. Red glass panes are not. Red glass panes aren't linked to the cartography table in any way.

The price of iron bars shouldn't be an issue too, since maparts sell for a much higher price than their ingredients.

The only issue I see is that a plugin may not be able to modify what is allowed into the second slot of the cartography table.

Absolutely supporting this. The biggest thing that worries me about selling maparts is the fact that many people don't know or simply don't respect the rules of mapart distribution. This would enable the seller to manage it with some sense of security. I think something like this is long overdue, so yes, 100% support.

I support making maps non-copyable as long as it doesnt stop them being unlocked - a few players have "Live Art" panels which are unlocked and update as we're working on new art pieces. It's a lot of fun. I love the idea of making those live art panels un-copyable while remaining unlocked.
