Economy Nasty rumours.

    The range over which cropper farms used to work was a 5x5 chunk space cantered around the player. With the update, this range has now increased.
    Tonight I heard a rumour that this is going to be changed back to 5x5 as it wasn't intended.

    I informed them that this couldn't possibly be true because Beta testing was carried out proir to the release and such an oversight couldn't possibly have happened and on the incredibly unlikely chance that it did, the dev's and staff would stop players from spending many millions and many days expanding their farms to take advantage of this change. Especially as this rumour seems to have surfaced several days ago and in that time, I alone have spent another 11 million or so.

    Dexuby, could you kindly but this rumour to bed by informing all that it is not so and that many players have not wasted many millions of dollars.

    It seems as if the economy server only got updated half way. We are still missing features that where promised in the update, as well as having alot of bugs that still haven't been fixed. They have removed ways to make money without adding the updated ways in.

    Without finalizing the economy update, players who have been around awhile don't exactly have any real goal to reach as they don't know what farm will make money and what's gonna get nerfed and what's gonna gets fixed.

    Regarding this comment the update change log states that only the 5x5 area should be ticked but that simply is not the case. What I have heard going around the server is that 5x5 area gets ticked at the normal rate, while the outside chunks get ticked at a lower rate.

    Finalizing this update would be very beneficial to players so they can have a more accurate view of the servers future.

    I suggest no one listen to rumors until we get concrete information from Dex. I've heard countless theories and rumours and speculation since the update which have turned out false.

    Dex is unsighted on forums since last Sunday. Probably resting up ahead of tackling the next batch of bugs.
    Are any staff members able to provide any information on this?

    its very hard progressing your island tho, if you ignore the rumors then invest 40 million in dirt that you cant sell would be a major drawback. its not like we can sell dirt to shop for 700 per or even 400 per to at least recoup some money if this is the case, the patch notes do say that 5x5 is the loaded chunks which means anything outside of that is lazy chunks which do have reduced tick rates, however it has been rumored that the chunks outside the 5x5 are intended not to work with crophoppers, which if is the case would hurt the server tremendously if its reverted completely back to 5x5 at this point. (In my opinion)

    They should revert this change for server performance. The server has always been 5 by 5 loaded chunks and there is no reason to increase it any increase was probably just a bug.

    more chunks usually isnt an issue, having 5x5 loaded and 7x7 lazy i think was the intent, lazy chunks are barly any stress on the server if you compare it to 5 passive mobs , if they want to solve lag issues it would be easier setting a limit to how many of each mob you can have on an isalnd and the stacks wont apply to this, like u can have a 30k stack 16 times and be fine, some people have hundreds of turtles and pandas that causes so much more lag then lazy chunks

    also the tax implementation lags the hell out of the server every 20 min when it calculates it, it also redacts bal if you are offline so increasing the time for tax to like 2 hours would reduce the lag spikes that happen every 20 min

    Yes, It’s always been 5x5 but now it’s not. It’s also been 1.12 for a long time, but now it’s not.
    “Always has been” is no reason For anything to stay the same. If it was, we’d still be playing 1.12

    Fair point id say either way they want is fine either keep the lazy chunks or dont

    It's possible that the ticking chunk distance increased slightly with the update, a massive increase wasn't intentional though. Not all of the chunks that players can see actually get ticked.

    That depends on how much it increased, if it's just a slight increase it's intentional so it won't get changed, if the inactive chunks do tick (outside of the simulation distance) it's a bug that has to be fixed since it'd have a large performance impact. This has been mentioned in one of the update notes so the intended behavior has been made clear from the beginning.

    "The server-sided render distance has been increased meaning that you'll be able to see more chunks around you. This only has a small performance impact because the amount of chunks that will get ticked do not change."

    The server now ticks/grows/sells/etc at a 9x9 range instead of the previous 5x5. Immediately after the update, it was briefly 11x11 but that was quickly brought down to the current 9x9. So two extra chunks in every direction.

    If render/tick distance is another 2 chunks in each direction then I guess that might seem like a small increase but as it results in a 9x9 area, the increase is actually 3.24 times. 81 chunks as opposed to 25. So an increase in income of 3.24 times if we build farms to that size.
    To build an existing 5x5 farm out to that size, of 15 layers per chunk costs over 172 million so I hope you can understand why I’d love an answer to the question.

    Dexuby The smallest increase you could make, by increasing by 1 chunk in all directions almost doubles the area/potential income we currently have. (7x7)/(5x5)=1.96. I wouldn’t say it was small but it’s the smallest you could have.
    As there was “an intended increase” can I assume that it is safe to build out to 7x7 and that this ‘might’ become the new limit in future so unadvisable to build out further.

    As I've mentioned, many have already started based on the fact that an increase was intended and the smallest increase possible is up to 7x7.

    Surely in Beta testing, they did some sort of stress testing.

    If there is any chance that cropper farm size will be reduced to 5x5, I would recommend and official notice to players as you have already implied that the new intended size is at least 7x7
