On the heels of threads commenting about the lack of trading etc on Skyblock, I thought I'd share my personal experience.

I try to encourage trading by doing the following:

Whenever anyone PMs me if I want to buy stuff, Eg: "do you want to buy 64 melons for a grass", and if the offer looks decent, ie, they're not asking for freebies "64 god items for a diamond", I will make a counter offer based on what I currently need. If I need wood, I will say "well I don't need melons at the moment, but I'll give u iron for a stack of oak logs".

Buy stuff that I currently need, like Stone/Cobble/Wood/Charcoal/Wool/Flowers anything that is easily obtainable for them.

    1) This gives anyone (non donors especially) the chance to own iron/grass/diamonds if they are willing to work for it.
    2) It spreads the wealth of the economy, if I am ever short on iron/grass, I could easy spam in color to sell my wood/cobble waaay quicker than they can
    3) It helps to keep people busy, which means less spamming, griefing, cheating etc.
    4) If players feel that they can legitly obtain items and work their way up to having diamonds without begging borrowing or stealing, then it's a bonus to the skyblock economy.

So I urge you rich donors out there, the next time a nondonor PMs you "Do you want pumpkins for grass?", make a counter offer with something you need! "No, I don't currently need melons, but do you have a stack of oak logs". Not only will you benefit skyblock greatly, you'll also find some great deals, and make new friends!

Very good idea, I always buy stuff I need from non donors if I see them offering it in chat, and now I will ask to buy the stuff I need as well.

Thanks guys, I really feel that the majority of players are willing to work for grass/iron/diamonds. It's only when they feel that such things are just totally unobtainable that they resort to griefing/scamming/stealing.

On a side note, If people see a non donor trying to buy 1 lava/ 1 lava bucket in chat they should tpa to them and see if they have a obby on their island. If they have lost their bucket, employ them to cut wood or something in your tree farm. I have done this before and the player didn't grief.

Yea, most people that ask for saplings or lava lost theirs, and if it's obvious thats the case, I just give them 1 of whatever starter item they lost.

I dont trade. I have everything I need. I like to spread the wealth for free. I like to drop valuables now and again, give out saplings and seeds and food to those who need it. I hate when I am asked for trading. Because my answer is always going to be no. Because they dont have what i need. Instead i just give because the items they want are things i have that i dont use. Mainly I have surplus materials and a bunch of random things that are not what i want. And it may be that im selfish, you can say people like me ruin the "economy" or trade system. But i came to play minecraft and to be self sustainable is what i like doing. I would urge people to trade if they like, but I cant say that i will be trading anytime soon. People can get free items from me if they are nice, and sell them off if they like but at least i know they wont be without because people wont trade with them.

From my expirience most of people asking for lava just turned it into obsidian and have no idea what to do next. Giving them simple instruction to avoid water source and then right click obsidian solves that situation without any trade ot tp.

Exactly. Generally 33% of the time I've just been able to help show them how to "resurrect" their lava, 50% of the time they've actually blocked it off, or lost the bucket, and only maybe 5% of the time do they ask for a 2nd lava source
