Well, the economy contributes to the server in a major way. Without it, skyblock.net would not be skyblock.net I do see your point though. It is very, and I do mean very, stupid >~<
I believe people invented the economy on net to make things more fun. Trying to give a value to items makes saving up for things more meaningful. I guess no item is truly rare anymore unless it is glitched some how.
