Hints to get the most out of skyblock.net

    Hi everyone.
I would like to share with you an important guide. I was recently doing some broadcasts of my own when a mod remarked on how much more useful they are than the normal broadcasts, so I will be compiling a fairly large guide, with easy to navigate contents on certain topics to help both donors and non donors, and hope this will bring awareness, and also help moderators in their duties.
    Lets begin :)

    CONTENTS
    1. Rules
    2. Starting up
    3. General play, warps and commands
    4. Donating
    5.Ban appeals
    6. Mod applications
    7. Etiquette
    8. Coops
    9. Donor commands and perks
    10. Economy
    11. Other Links

    1. Rules

Now this is the most important section hence why i added it first. The rules are there to create a peaceful and structured environment for people to play in. Much like a school. Some rules are concrete, while some take some common sense. Failure the follow rules results in punishment in the form of: a kick (minor infringement which is given to those who break a minor rule and is designed to make you think about your actions), mute (if your actions in chat break the rules, you will be muted, taking away the right you have to communicate with everyone else), a temp ban (where you will take some time off the server to correct your behavior and a permban (which you will not be allowed on the server until you can prove in a ban appeal (see 5. ban appeals) that you will change your behavior.
A full list of rules in depth is found The Rules in the Most In-Depth Form | Page 4 | Skyblock Forums but i will try and simplify the basics for you if you are in a rush:
    1. No griefing/looting
    2. No bridging (going to other islands using fly or using blocks to connect islands)
    3. No island farming (making new islands to gain resources then replacing the island then keeping the contents of the old island
    4. No pvp (no killing people but using sand traps, lava traps or breaking blocks under people for they fall to their death)
    5. No spamming chat (includes using all caps and trying to cap protection it, trying to bypass the filter (applies to swear words not works like assignment, and pass which are incorrectly filtered, no using excessive colour, don't repeat your sentences RULE OF THUMB: 1 message per 15-20 seconds is sufficient and do not number spam, which is the act of asking people to "say 123 if" or "say I if" or anything to ask another player to post irrelevant things.
    6. Be respectful to other players (no abusing people, no racist comments, no bullying, respect others opinions)
    7. Don't scam (don't make promises you can keep- in other words if you don't have the item to trade, don't try and trade as if you do.)

As for illegal items the RULE OF THUMB is if it cannot be "Q" dropped, its illegal to trade. Of course there are exceptions which are detailed in the link above.

    2. Starting up
So you have decided to visit this website before you went on the server, well done. When you decide to visit the server here is some start information.
Skyblock is a special form of survival which you find yourself on an island in the sky. You have the basic resources you need to get food, make wood and cobble, make infinite water and more.
To begin an island you do /newisland. To start over you do /newisland replace, and it will prompt you to confirm. Now you have your very own skyblock. The most simple rule in determining how you build is to ensure you build within 99x99 or 49 from each side of the bedrock. All that's left is to build like you usually do on minecraft. Another guide READ! - Kaylee's guide to a successful starter skyblock! | Skyblock Forums can help you with farming and important things (dated).

    3. General Play, warps and commands
Skyblock is a wonderful community. Playing minecraft in such an environment is rewarding. So have fun. Just a few things about the general play of skyblock:
    - unlike the map version you can play on single player, skyblock net does not have natural mob spawning, and mob traps require a spawner cage which can be changed by a donor.
    - On the .net server there is no island protection, therefore if people come to your island they can take you items and break stuff. All of these incidents in which you are a victim of a rule break must be screenshot, you can easily use the F2 key to get them.
    - Mods or moderators are the people you ask for help if you have something happen to you that involves rule breaks and dilemmas like private chests and needing items refunded. However bear in mind mods are not there to give you free things. Even if they are players like you, they also have a job to do, and you should make it easier for them. Also bear in mind skygods are not able to ban people, unban people of fix griefs. Skygods are just players too.
-use a bed to set home : players can sleep in a bed then, leave the bed where it is, then do /homes to create a home that isn't the bedrock.
    - to get more dirt you need to place grass and break them to retrieve grass. Try not to lose dirt as well since its your best friend and you can trade it. Also look after your buckets, since you can't trade them (you must make them) and sand.

This server has many places to visit and it is suggested you visit them to get familiar with the server. In particular, as a beginner you should use the following warps and commands:
/warp info (it has a lot of useful tips and hints)
/warp spawn or /spawn (where a lot of people throw items at you and if a good way to meet skyblockers)
/warp animal (go there to kill animals for food, or shear the sheep for wool)
/warp mob (go there to kill mobs for mob drops and you will even find armor but don't take valuables there)
/warp skybase (to safely trade items so in case of scam they can be logged
/ma j (a minigame where you kill waves of mobs to gain prizes, similar to kit pvp)
/warp donate (to see ranks you can buy with real money)
/warp grass (buy items with grass blocks)
To see all warps do /warp
    Commands (useful for beginners)
    /home (to go home)
/msg or /m (to privately talk to a player but can be monitored by moderators)
    /help (see all commands)
    /vote (to show vote link)
Of course the more you play the more you will learn :)

    4. Donating
When you feel like you have played the server enough to want to stay, donating is a good way to help the server, while getting a fancy title and a rank. You will gain a donor prefix, and be able to use certain commands detailed in .9 donor perks. You can check out the kits and commands at donate.skyblock.net

    5. Ban appeals
Have you been banned? Don't rush into writing a sentence on why you should be unbanned. You must take the time to understand the way a ban appeal works. You MUST follow a template which is pinned to the top of the ban appeals forum. You will get your appeal DENIED if you do not follow the template. To make a good appeal you must be honest; Even if you did something bad, if you are honest and admit your mistakes it impacts on your punishment such as shorter ban time. You must not use one sentence answers to answer mod questions or try to dodge mod questions. You must not bump your appeal since you will not get unbanned any faster. If a mod doesn't answer a appeal, usually another mod will take over after an unacceptable amount of time. You should not spam your appeal either, and you cannot tag mods (a mod will tag for you). The most details you but in your ban appeal, the faster you can get seen too and unbanned (if they decide to). You are able to re-appeal but wait a good 2-3 weeks before doing such, and try to learn your lesson. Many people dont read on how to make a ban appeal and they make the process of unbanning hard on themselves. SO always use the template. Even better is to FOLLOW THE RULES!

    6. Moderator Applications
To assist in the running of the server, the admins will be looking for dedicated and hardworking members of the community to moderate the server and the many players who join everyday. Players have the opportunity to apply for mod and may be accepted if they have enough player support and can prove themselves suitable to the job. Like ban appeals there is a template to follow to make the process of choosing moderator easier. You can add your own personality to the template but it must contain the core questions. You must not copy another persons mod app! you will be denied automatically. Try not to bump unnecessarily, the general thank-you post is manners, but too much of it will make it harder for the real feedback to shine through. Here are my tips on a good mod app that I had success with on a similar server:
    -Bold your headings
-Add some colour (not red in case of people being colourblind)
    -Use proper grammar and spelling
-Use full sentences and don't ramble
-Make a list of personality traits and expand on them, linking them back to why you will be a good mod
-Its best to be honest about experience since if you say you have experience and you get accepted then you will look like a fool
-Make your times on the server look like this
    monday- 2 hours
    tuesdays- 4 hours or 9am-1pm
-Try and make it entertaining since the admins will have to read a lot of applications. Stand out applications are not always long, but they are detailed.
-Be forums active. Not just on the off topic and games places, but on suggestions, and help and reports. You will need to be able to use the forums proficiently while moderating the server.

Tip: Becoming a mod is not all fun and games. You must keep up with reports, be active in game and manage ban appeals. You will be helping to mind the forums as well. You must be up for all that, so if you have other commitments its best to have a good think if the role is for you. There are some inactive mods hanging around and the server is gaining popularity, so you really need to be able to do the job.

    7. Etiquette
As you will find, certain members of the community do not follow proper etiquette when using chat and private messages. Don't be one of those people who annoys other because you are impatient. Here's some tips:
    - Don't spam (part of rules), but also don't spam people with coop requests and /tpa requests (each last 2 minutes before expiring so common sense is to wait that long before sending another on, or its just spam
    - Don't beg to join islands (get to know people first, then ask nicely)
    - Don't /m people excessively ( that includes getting impatient when someone replies. wait 20-30 seconds and try again. If they don't answer you twice, assume they are afk. This goes for messaging mods. They will be dealing with problems so if you need help, leave a message then try again after 20-30 sec
    - No means NO ( if you are told NO by anyone, either to getting an item or a trade, don't ask why and don't convince them to change their minds. If fact if you want to know why just ask politely but don't expect and answer. It seems harsh, but you have to understand that not everyone will want to answer you, and the more you push, the less help you will receive.
All in all use common sense. Would i want to be spammed with question marks and the same messages all in caps seconds apart from each other? Would i like to get begged with coop requests every 10 seconds?

    8. Coops
this is more of a warning. The leader of the coop has the power to restart the island you are one which will erase all chests. So please be careful. The items lost will be non refundable. You should use an enderchest to keep all valuables so you will never lose them when the coop leader decides to either /coop kick you or /newisland replace.

    9. Donor and donor perks
If you are a donor or thinking of becoming one, here are all the perks you can get, not sorted by level:
    /fly
    /jump
    /workbench or /wb
    /enderchest or /echest
/nick (changes nick name limited to 15 characters including colour codes as a 250/400
    /ptime (changes your time only)
/sethome (sets another spawn, accessed by /homes)
/pet (gives you a mob that follows you around)
    /spawnmob
    /spawner (changes spawner type)
    /enchant
    /repair
    and more!
Colour codes are another donor perk, using colour in chat. the codes are imputed such that &7 will produce a colour. you can do many colours but using the letters a-f and 0-9 will create colours. Special character can be use on pets such as &k for random (magic)

    10. Economy
There are a large number of people who believe this server has an economy. Although this server is not "economy" net has a system of trades and currency which you should be aware of. Now From Dirt to Diamonds: An in-depth guide to the Skyblock economy. | Skyblock Forums is a guide to the economy which you need to understand, and is suggested you read. To break it down, grass is the main currency. But doesn't mean you need grass to trade with people. You can trade your saplings, chests of wood, and stone and food and anything that is legal to trade. The economy sounds serious and daunting even but you should remember minecraft is for enjoyment, and living with he basics is much more fun. You may hear people bragging, buying rares, having tones of diamonds, but don't worry, your concern is surviving.

This is kinda a gravedig, try not to post on things that have been inactive for more than a month.
However if you are in game do /help and you will see all the commands you can use :)
