24 million people suffer with an eating disorder, and over 40 million people play minecraft so there is a chance that this may help someone. I won't make you sit through a sob story and all that jazz but basically I have had anorexia since the age of 10/11. When I was moving up to secondary school everyone got really thin and I stayed with my baby fat and carried on being what I thought was 'fat'. Since then I counted calories, dieted, exercised and soon I became obsessed. I won't go swimming as I don't like people seeing my body and I don't eat enough. I under eat by about 2 days a week. Lets discuss this. - 'Fat' is not a thing. You here everyone saying you should not aspire to be like the models in the media which is what I did but think about it, those women go through so much pain and at the end of the day they get payed to starve themselves. There is no need to be 'thin'. Being underweight is far worse than being overweight and at the end of the day, as long as you feel comfortable thats all that matters. -The media created this idea of being thin when really, thin is not a thing. Being slim is fine, being skinny or underweight is not. You are unique and there is only 1 of you so don't change that. -Alot of people go through a stage of not liking their body or not feeling good about themselves which is fine. It's usually a phase but sometimes it carries on. I will discuss how to get though this is the how to help bit. -You never see yourself the way you truly are. It's either in a reflection or a photo but you never see yourself the way you truly are. You see yourself differently from others and they see you differently so though you may think people think you are ugly, you truly aren't. You have so many unique features that make you great that no one has the right to label you 'ugly'. How to help yourself! This is my advice. Not really medical or anything but hopefully a first hand experience will help more than just a doctors point of view. You need to realise you are what matters, not other peoples perception of you. If you don't like your body: I took this one from Emma Blackery. I will simply link the video. Watch her other videos from the 'Feel-Good' series or her usual videos because they make ya laugh. Acceptence. First step is accepting that you need help. This is hard, it's hard to accept that something is wrong with as all that clouds your mind is your body image and how you look to other people. You focus so much on how you look that you don't actually realise you have don't something awful to your body. Don't worry though. You can recover. Anorexia Nervosa: Signs, Symptoms, Causes, And Treatment This helps if you are in doubt but usually if you have a concern talk to your parents or close friends. This leads me onto my next point. Talk to someone. I cannot stress how much this will help. Telling someone about how you feel whether it be your parents or your friends or anyone it is 1 step forward. I know you will feel awkward but remember they will still love you truly and help you through this. Anorexia is hard to get over but it is a mind-over-matter thing and if you have support, it makes the journey easier. 1 day at a time (Pyhsical). Right. Now this step is not as bad as you think. The hard part is accepting and talking to someone that you have anorexia. By now you will have support, feel a whole lot better and be more motivated to get yourself back on track. This is not an overnight wonder, it takes a while and you have got to remember that but each day that you gain weight, each day you are 1 step closer to getting better. Gain weight the correct way however. Eat healthily and exercise less or not at all. Don't binge out on chocolate as that just gets you ill. 1 day at a time (Mentally). I said earlier anorexia is a 'mind over matter' thing. Though each day you may not lose weight as long as you feel positive that's all that matters. I made a iPod playlist so whenever I would feel like crap, or just not motivated at all I would play these songs and most of the time, I felt so much better. Once you get better mentally and start to feel great, you will feel great about yourself. - My songs included: Happy - Pharrel Williams Air Hostess - Busted Love is on the Radio - McFly Walking on Sunshine - Marina and the Waves Ain't good enough for you - Bruce Springsteen It's raining men - The Weather Girls Say a Little Prayer for you - Aretha Franklin Happy Together - The Turtles Thats how you know - Enchanted I just can't wait to be king - The Lion King Many more I can't name but those are some. Treat yourself. Set yourself a target. If you don't reach it don't break down and start crying, set yourself a slightly easier target then aim for that. When you reach your target you have more motivation to keep going and you also get a treat. I recommend: -Going to the cinema -Going to a theme park (Expensive so maybe for a special treat) -A nice restaurant -Buying a new item of clothing or even a film. -Trip out (Day trip) Targets and goals are important so make sure they are realistic and also frequent. Random stuff. Thigh Gaps. I don't understand now how having a gap between your thighs makes you beautiful.. It's a gap. Some people can't physically have them as well. So don't obsess over them. A lot of you will probably think I am pretty pretenicious making this thread but it helps me get through it too so even if you don't like this thread, at least it may have helped 1 person and helped me. Can I just add on that Jennifer Lawernce has been voted hottest woman alive, she is gorgeous, she has meat on her bones and that is absolutely beautiful. Your weight does not define you, you don't need to slim down to feel handsome or pretty.
Anorexia nervosa (AN), characterized by refusal to maintain a healthy body weight, an obsessive fear of gaining weight, and an unrealistic perception of current body weight. However, some patients can suffer from anorexia nervosa unconsciously. These patients are classified under "atypical eating disorders". Anorexia can cause menstruation to stop, and often leads to bone loss, loss of skin integrity, etc. It greatly stresses the heart, increasing the risk of heart attacks and related heart problems. The risk of death is greatly increased in individuals with this disease.[26] The most underlining factor researchers are starting to take notice of is that it may not just be a vanity, social, or media issue, but it could also be related to biological and or genetic components.[27] Bulimia nervosa (BN), characterized by recurrent binge eating followed by compensatory behaviors such as purging (self-induced vomiting, excessive use of laxatives/diuretics, or excessive exercise). Fasting and over-exercising may also be used as a method of purging following a binge. Eating disorders not otherwise specified (EDNOS) is an eating disorder that does not meet the DSM-IV criteria for anorexia or bulimia.[28] Examples can be a female who suffers from anorexia but still has her period or someone who may be at a "healthy weight" but who has anorexic thought patterns and behaviors; it can mean the sufferer equally participates in some anorexic as well as bulimic behaviors (sometimes referred to as purge-type anorexia) or to any combination of eating disorder behaviors that do not directly put them in a separate category.[29] Binge eating disorder (BED) or 'compulsive overeating', characterized by binge eating, without compensatory behavior. This type of eating disorder is even more common than bulimia or anorexia. This disorder does not have a category of people in which it can develop. In fact, this disorder can develop in a range of ages and is unbiased to classes.[30][31] Pica, characterized by a compulsive craving for eating, chewing or licking non-food items or foods containing no nutrition. These can include such things as chalk, paper, plaster, paint chips, baking soda, starch, glue, rust, ice, coffee grounds, foam rubber and cigarette ashes. These individuals cannot distinguish a difference between food and non-food items. I had to point this out and thankyou wikipedia. This should go out to all eating disorders. I think anorexia gets a lot of attention because skinny is societies accepted norm, but yet they will judge a person for being too skinny when they fall to the pressure of people telling them being anything but the size of a model (the ones we see on ads and more) is wrong. Being myself classed as having an eating disorder I think its important to recognise all forms and help all kinds of suffers. While the beautiful women you talk about may have meat on their bones, they are not plus sized. They still fit of what society thinks is beautiful So what we have is still the focus on the normal and underweight, and not the overweight. Im overweight. And i binge eat. i have my moments of relapse. But I want everyone to follow moopuffs advice no matter what the eating disorder.
Wonderful thread Moopuff While I haven't suffered being anorexic, I have had issues similar to this and know people who are anorexic. It makes me sad to see friends think they are not thin enough or be told by guys that they is not thin enough and starve themselves because of it. I couldn't imagine not eating and I really love pie
The reason I only talked about anorexia is because that is the only one I have had experience with that. Sorry.. But some of the advice is really relevant to others too, motivation is key and to lose weight you need to do it properly and not the wrong way which, in my case, resulted in anorexia.
