Recently, the help section has been flooded by people asking for help regarding name changes. What to do BEFORE or AFTER a name change has occurred on NET. Hopefully this article will consolidate the exact steps you need to take to perform a successful name change on NET, and also provide some troubleshooting tips on what to do if you'd already changed your name.

Background:
The name change feature was introduced by Mojang a few weeks ago. While NET is compatible with 1.8 clients, many of the core components haven't yet been updated, and this can cause some problems with people changing their names, since name changing is only supported in 1.8+ (where the new naming system is implemented).

What to do if you've ALREADY changed your name:
You might have already changed your name, and found that you are unable to access /home or open locked chests on your island. Do NOT panic, all is NOT lost. We are usually able to recover islands if you follow the steps as outlined below.

1) Be online NET
2a) If you logged off on your island, DO NOT LEAVE. Instead, immediately note down the coordinates (press F3 and look at the XYZ line, there should be a bunch of numbers there).
2b) If you did not log off on your island, try doing /home. It'll likely TP you to spawn or say home not found.
3) Contact a Red/Dark Red mod, and explain either of the situations above.
4) When you are on your island, note down your coordinates as in 2a)
5) Either way, make a bed somewhere safe on your island, and sleep in it at night. This will enable you to do /homes and reach your bed (aka island). This is a temporary measure while the server is transitioning to 1.8, after which we hope to have the issue resolved.
6) Get the mods to break the signs on your chest and then replace them ASAP with signs of ur new name

If you HAVE NOT yet changed your name, you can do the following:

0) You'll need an alt or a friend to help you who does not already have an island
1) Gather as much proof of donorship Eg. Transaction ID, screenshots with your username etc
2) Break all the locks of your chests on your island
3) Empty your inventory, armor, hat and enderchest in some place safe
4a) If you own the island, and there are no other coops, invite your friend/alt to the island as a coop (/coop invite <player>) then leave the coop (/coop leave).
4b) If you own the island and there are other coops, tell them ahead of time, and transfer the leadership to your friend/alt by inviting them to the coop (/coop invite <player>), then A) Kicking your island coops till your friend/alt is the only one (/coop kick <player>) then leave the coop (/coop leave) or B) using /changeleader <oldleader> <newleader> (this feature is reported to work for some and not others).
4c) If you're part of a coop, inform the leader, sleep in a bed at night (for you to do /homes), then leave the coop (/coop leave). Also, note down the coordinates of your island note down the coordinates (press F3 and look at the XYZ line, there should be a bunch of numbers there).
5) Change your name as per the Mojang website
6a) If you own the island with no other coops, simply get your friend/alt to re-invite you back into the coop
6b) If you own the island with other coops, get your friend to re-invite you back into the coop, change leader back to you, then you can re-invite the other coops back
6c) If you are in a coop, /msg your leader to be reinvited, and use /homes (your bed) in the mean time
