Exact timestamps to the few seconds would be quite good.

 

For starters the time should be increased. And It should be per account, not per message type.

We already have an /ads system, if people want a higher ads presence, they should use that.

And we also have an auction house, if you are selling an item just put it there, no need to spam chat about it every 5 mins.

 

Checking Logs and seeing exact timestamps can easily identify if it’s an automatic script that sends it at certain intervals. If somebody, somehow managed to send their ads at the exact interval to the second, multiple times, that’s unfortunate. But i agree with ~Sky~ here.

 

Per account AND per island advertised. If my alt and my main both advertise my map art shop every 5 minutes, that's clearly spam. In my opinion.

 

This shouldn't require as much discussion as its getting. The case is rather simple. /Ads is a ineffective way to advertise compared to chat advertisement so therefore irrelevant and not a viable alternative and a easy compromise would be to increase the minimum chat advert cooldown to 30 minutes or greater between messages.

There is a /ad system in place, it says in chat every so often "Check out some of the most unique Skyblock islands by using /ads!". I never see my self looking though /ads one bit. Whether it actually helps and brings in possible customers is unknown to me. Just puts your name up on GUI that you have to manually type (/ad) to open. So therefore we use chat instead.

Chat is something that pops up on nearly every user's monitor/screen unless they manually turn it off. A great place for advertisements.
Paying a high price for top /ads when the user has to manually type /ad in order to see your paid advertisement, I'm not too sure on.
It's free for them not to type /ad as well, when you're over here paying however much to be the top or one of the top ads.
I do believe normally the ad owner pays the price so people will see the ad. And then they will have to pay a premium price (5grass) to turn off advertisements.

The chat is free and nearly everyone sees it, imo its better than /ads. For your case just turn your automatic messages to a higher timeframe, especially if its an AFK farm and not a shop. You won't need a repetitive 5 or 15 minute ad if someone is already using your AFK farm for hours on end.

Maybe change the /ad system to actually advertise at /spawn for new players to see? I think spawn would be a good place considering a lot of new players will probably get familiarized with spawn more than anything starting out. Plus if its a good shop or free stuff for new players that gets shown at /spawn then surely it will help the players get started.

And if you don't want to see /ads in chat or spawn, then maybe you could pay a fee to turn them off? Like 5 grass or 5k Skybucks, something on the cheaper end for new players who can afford to turn off ads if they want to.

Maybe people get accustomed to not using those tools because Chat ads exist.

Seems some players are using the AH as an alternate to Ads GUI.

Ads GUI should probably start of cheaper, as they will be sorted by price paid anyways. And maybe last a full week. If you are placing an ad yourself on the GUI, you usually care more what the other ads say and where you are placed. So making the Ads GUI more interesting and useful, should get more people placing and reading them. Also you might find new listings and not the same batch as always.

Perhaps staff need to talk to staff because staff are telling players to stop doing it.

Can we get rule clarification on using alts to advertise twice as often? Is this against the rules or not? Feels like it should be.

 

None of you would have lasted 5 mins on survival 2 years ago, for the amount of ads lol. Ads are important and help so much. Can't get rid of them, wouldn't be fair. Many new players dont know about /ads when they start but do visit places advertised in chat! Very helpful.

 

Wouldn't be fair to who exactly? Outlawing automatic advertisements, if anything, makes it more fair because not everyone can leave their computer on 24/7 to spread the word of their shop.

 

It wouldnt be fair to players who want to use that form of advertising which has been available on both eco and survival for years!

 

This thread isn't necessarily completely against chat ads (though I wouldn't be mad if they were fully banned). People seem to be broadly supportive of increasing the minimum time between chat ads and preventing others from circumventing that via alts/different ad versions. To me, it's now a question of what the minimum time should be increased to - I agree with Exodonus that it should be 30+ mins.

 

Thread prefix should be changed from Global to Economy as i hardly see any reference to Survival (skyblock) and only 2 people from Survival supporting this suggestion (Which i see them hardly using the chat, so they can just go into /local if they dont want to see the ads.) , the majority of Survival uses Automatic Ads and i dont see anyone complaining about it ingame, it also Helps new players who doesnt have grass to buy an ad spot in /ads to advertise their shops/islands.

 

You should just /ignore someone if you're unhappy with seeing their ads. That's my opinion.

 

That's a terrible way of managing it because players can also interact normally with the chat outside of automatic advertisements.
