I honestly thought of this as an idea even before certain map arts were being confiscated (since the staff want free map arts- JK LOL!) but i honestly think that having a crafting recipe or something to clear maps back to its original state, an empty map. I realize a recipe would be tough to do with millions of different map ids, so there could be something to do a workaround, like for example if you were to go to an anvil and rename the map "Empty Map" it would turn it back into a regular empty map? I dunno bc there are some cases where you have too many copies of a map and it's a waste of material, but i also think with the recent confiscations going on, that we should be able to clear them and get the empty maps back.
Empty Map & Filled Map are two different items so it should be relatively easy to convert one to the other. minecraft:empty_map minecraft:map The way maps work is that they are all assigned unique IDs with .dat files. So in order to clear the data, you would have to modify/delete those files to actually "clear" the map. But this would just cause it to revert to the default filled map (still as a filled map), it would NOT turn back into an empty map. It might be much simpler to just give you a new empty map rather than clearing the data. Maybe it can be added as a custom recipe to convert them back?
They wouldn't need to hand them in if they can clear them for an empty map. i know empty maps would not make up for grass spent on them, but at least get something you can actually use if you can't have a certain map? it just felt good timing to suggest this but i've always wished we could clear maps like that
I’ve forwarded this to Crew, waiting for a response to see if it’s currently possible to implement. Obvious support
Oh I'm operating on the assumption that they need the maps for a reason, since they didn't tell us to /trash or void them.
This is similar to CraftWithAbbie's thread from April 29th which I've already commented on. I (and everyone else who has supported these suggestions) still want this to be implemented. Therefore, I will be bumping the threads at reasonable intervals until we get this much needed feature. Fun fact from today's Wikipedia featured article: The UK's double sovereign coin was first minted in 1820, but has only been issued for circulation in four of the subsequent years. It is currently issued as a collector's coin by the Royal Mint.
i see it's a popular request then since this thread was made at least a couple of weeks before! i mean im not complaining it just means its a great idea!
Thought about this for a while and I think it'd be really nice for some people who had a lot of empty maps and accidentally made them into maps they didn't want instead of a map they did want because the ID was almost the same like just one number off and if they were really tired and didn't notice that small numerical difference and don't want to buy the maps again because it costs a lot of grass that they don't have because they lost it by clicking on the wrong signshop
Sorry I didn't phrase my message super well, I saw this post after CraftWithAbbie's one and was glad that someone else had brought it up earlier!
