You might have been muted.

 

But it's been tested, you cannot message while muted. Maybe that only applies to mod mutes. Could they have been console muted? Or vice versa.

 

What server is this on?

That's what I'm thinking. Cause I know some mods have checked to see if messages work while muted, and it didn't work. For the mods to have tested it, they would have had to do the mute, which means it was mod-given. If it's a console mute, due to too many warnings, then it is possible you could message, as that hasn't been tested. So yes, my best guess would be console mute.

Hmmm.. this happen on many other previous servers that i used to play on.
maybe try
/cm deafen

 

Check your multiplayer settings. You may have your chat set to commands only. If not, you may be muted. Players can message while muted for whatever reason. I muted a player and he instantly started spamming messaged.

 

Oh wow really!? I could have sworn the other day I saw two mods talking saying they tested this and you couldn't message....

 

It may be different on net. I wouldn't think so though.

You may have multi-player chat of so its commands only, it happened to me

 

all stet it was multi player settings
