does a beacon need a pyramid of valuable blocks to work? if so, how many levels?

 

Well, to draw an image, it should look like:

Full, not hollow, of valuable blocks (Iron, Gold, Diamond, Emerald)

 

I'm not to sure with beacons I think the cheapest block you can use is iron to power itpower it

 

so 3 levels of valuables?

 

ok, for a more, worded instruction:

Top layer: 1x1
Second layer: 3x3
Third layer: 5x5
Fourth layer: 7x7

The beacon goes atop the apex 1x1

 

1x1 =1

3x3=9
+
5x5=25
+
7x7=49
