Hey everyone, I'm sorry if this is answered somewhere. I looked on a few guide threads and didn't see an answer. On my island I started with two sheep and bred for a couple more. But now when I attempt to breed them I get xp without more animals. Including my chickens. Do I need to have a larger grass area or is there a breed limit? In total I have 2 chickens and 4 sheep. 2 of those sheep are outside of my grass area. I'm just not sure if I have to keep buying spawn eggs or if I need to expand my grass area. Thanks! (If this was answered elsewhere I can take this post down)
I don't typically play on servers but figured island building offered a bit of a challenge. So some mechanics aren't normal to the vanilla game for me.
I think mobs stack when near each other to reduce lag. If there's a (number)x (animal) above the mob, that's probably what happened.
To get them to breed you must have breeding turned on in your /settings Otherwize you will only get xp.
Even with breeding enabled in /settings, if there is already ~6 animals in the chunk, breeding for a new animal will only output xp and no baby. To counter this I suggest having 2 parent animals a couple of chunks away from any animals on your island and they will be able to produce a baby, then move the baby to another chunk for it to grow up which will free up the breeding chunk. Although this is more hassle it can allow you to breed as much as you want with no further bugs/limits. You can also have multiple breeding chunks (make sure they are multiple chunks away too) if producing only 1 baby per 5-6 mins is too slow.
Thank you for your thread on a recent issue. The issue has been resolved. This thread has been moved to the Help Archives.
