as a mapart creator, I find it really aggravating when I accidentally update my mapart so I need to rebuild them.

my suggestion is a plugin where you can surround a map with blaze powder it should lock it.

Full Support, this suggestion has been posted before, it would be much more convenient if maps can no longer be updated and you can lock them, hopefully this will someday be possible on skyblock / economy

iron bars are expensive as hell. Thats so much grass per locked map. 1x1 maparts would barely even make grass anymore. perhaps slimeballs? Pillow Why do you disagree? You didn't reply, I'm curious what you think of this suggestion.

Iron bars are just for the theme. If you can suggest a better item, please do. So far, I think iron bars crafted with 6 iron, so each grass is worth 5-8 iron bars. In my opinion its not that expensive, but I just suggested this because I felt that this would fit the theme a lot better. Also I didn't say it had to be surrounded by iron bars, just if you want it to be cheaper.

My new suggestion: Glass Panes are used on newer editions, maybe that can be used instead?
(There's a /warp trade to get 6 glass for a grass, so each grass will always be worth 16 panes or more.)
This is probably a better idea due to the fact that its the official item used for locking maps.

 

This is really useful, I always worry that I’ll reset my maps whenever I go to my mapart island.

It’s scary, and one solution to this is pretty simple - preventing the mapart from updating when not placed or held. But this isn’t completely “locking” a mapart, this is just so you don’t accidentally hold it and reset it while at a mapart island.

There’s definitely better solutions, but I feel just until something better is thought of, preventing maps from loading while in a player’s inventory is probably the best bet. As long as you’re not holding the mapart, it will not reset.

An example of this:
When you open a chest or shulker that hasn’t been opened in quite a while, the NBT “Unknown Map” in gry will appear below it. This means the map’s unloaded and will not update (to my knowledge, I may be incorrect).

Why not have this active at all times while it isn’t in a player’s hand or placed? (When an unloaded map is placed it just displays as grey).

It’s pretty simple to code as well, something like

>Have some code that checks whether map is in a player’s hand or placed
>Defines this, if it isn’t in a player’s hands or placed it won’t update
>Checks if it is placed in an item frame, if so, updates when the main map is updated (I’m pretty sure updates for placed maps are disabled so maybe skip this? Idek)
- I’m pretty sure there is a packet sent to tell the server what item you’re holding, so
>When the server receives a packet for when the player is holding a used map, update it

- This could also be integrated with my (and Adrian’s) suggestion about map resales
- The reason I’ve suggested this is because it is quite god damn hard to force the stoppage of maps updating without making maps obsolete, which is why I’ve left my suggestion here. Maybe you can add it to yours?

If you can afford to make a mapart, you can definitely afford 6 iron, not to mention that ranked players will give you 6 spare iron if you cannot afford it. Figure.

 

Usually people sell their1 1x1s for around 15 grass. It may be expensive to subtract 6 from that price (9 grass each instead of 15) which is a big hit against apart sales.

 

You can get 6 iron for 1-2 grass? Not to mention you have ranks on both servers that give you 6 iron every few days?

You’re also assuming each person only sells their mapart once

As a fellow map creator, a decent bit ago I was making a hard 2*3... I accidentally cleared it all.

No support the game needs less custom things, also mapart should be made harder to make in my opinion not easier.

 

I agree that this would be very useful. As long as it's a crafting recipe so those who don't want to lock maps don't have to.

 

Also assists against human error when making maparts, especially larger ones when maparts can be ruined while in the building process, however this is not really relevant to the suggestion thanks for pointing that out, but my old point however relevant still stants
