If that is the case sir, please do not review my application if you do not feel like it Valixta.

Myrmidous, I will be awaiting your feedback soon, as Valixta will not post a comment you can get right into reviewing my application. :)

    ~Tom :)

Too much history of fraud and trickery on this player to support another Moderator application. However I would endorse a non-critical position (TeamSpeak admin?) or something similar.

A bit of a language barrier on this one but Tom seems like a very intelligent applicant with one heck of a lingual ability. Even if he doesn't get Moderator someone probably needs to talk with him about translating server rules/etc into other languages. Best of luck on the application.

I honestly do not know if this is a legitimate application or a test of a new kind of forum bot. The writing is... odd, at best. Most sentences start fine but then derail immediately into rambling on non-related topics. I would almost endorse this application just so I could read future ban appeal reports by Orange. Those would be amazing.

Writes a very good personal history and backstory... but doesn't actually tie that into how that would make him a good Moderator. Kind of an odd way to write what is basically a job application especially considering he has a lot of strong qualities.

Non-supporting because this isn't written as an application: I felt like I was reading someone's life story and personal motivations. But at least it was mostly well-written.

[EDIT:] RocketOG has made changes to address some issues. Updated rating to "support"; there is no "halfway there" rating but this application is better than most.

Job applications can be tricky if you have no experience writing them. From what I can tell it seems like a great many people in the community have never written a formal résumé or any sort of competitive application. That is fine: No-one is seriously expecting a beautifully written, articulate posting for an online imaginary authority position.

However, if you're going to take the time to write a Moderator application I would like to give some input on how to avoid sounding like a complete gibbon. This is mainly focused on the "Why do you think you should be a Moderator?" section of the application-- most people completely lose their minds trying to explain what makes them a special snowflake.

I'm going to provide a template of how a "good qualification" is structured and then follow up with some example qualities from recent Moderator applications. It should be obvious what went wrong.

A good qualification paragraph has this format:
    1. A topic sentence.
    2. Why the qualification matters.
    3. Supporting statement.
    4. Second supporting statement.
    5. (Optional) Example situation, or closing sentence.
    Example:
"[1] Maturity is extremely important. [2] Moderators need this quality because it helps the community get along and remain civil even when people are upset. [3] I have consistently shown I am mature when speaking with others and responding to complaints or questions. [4] Additionally I am always seeking input from people I admire and working to be a better person. [5] This has helped me a lot on the community when it comes to avoiding drama or staying reasonable during debates."

I have labeled the sentences with [1] through [5] for easy identification. This is not a rigid format: It is quite possible to mix and match in any way that makes you comfortable. You could even add extra details without much trouble.

Now look at a couple example answers to the "Why should you be a Moderator?" question:

In all fairness to the authors: They meant well when these were written. I am not accusing them of anything here; these are just the easiest examples I found to illustrate some points.

These examples all have a topic sentence but it is completely hit or miss for everything else. No explanations are given for why the quality matters for this job position, supporting statements are missing (or odd) and there are few-to-no closing statements or examples.

This is hobospeech. These statements do not help the application at all. If every "qualification" was written like these examples then the entire app would read like badly spelled fan fiction.

The goal here is to apply for a job.
Yes, it is an actual job, with (minor) responsibilities and people depending on you. If you are going to list your best qualities then take the time to explain why they matter and provide supporting statements.

And for the love of blind baby crippled kittens: Do not list a quality and then disqualify yourself at the same time. "I will not tell a lie, and if I do I had a reason", "Strict - I have a jokey side" : Why would you list a good quality about yourself... and then immediately say you do not have it? At best this sounds like you have no confidence in yourself; at the worst this comes off like you are a complete liar.

Hopefully this has helped a few applicants with writing better qualifications. If not then meh-- no concerns, really. The most well-written applications will float to the top regardless. Best of luck to everyone, I'll look forward to reading the posts.

That was a long, rambling block of text in the "Why should you be a Moderator" portion of the application. Needs to be separated into paragraphs and explained a lot better.

For some reason this application feels... odd. Something is a bit off, I almost thought this was an alternate account of someone else.

[EDIT:] Found it. This is a rephrasing/copy of Duckie's application (link). Not sure if this is an alternate account or not but I feel slightly annoyed to be wasting my time tonight.

It seems that Duckie copied his application of Jack's, he said he did on the second page of the application.

I looked at the post dates and assumed the newer application copied the older one. If this isn't true then I may owe an apology to Jack. Can you link me to the post where Duckie says he plagiarized, sir?

You only get one "call out", Nikoshka. Are you using it for Ginger's application?
Can't. My wife has posted in the application before me (link) -- conflict of interest. I apologize, Nikoshka.

I understand he said he based it off Jack's as a "template" but why would there be a purpose of doing so when the template is right in the application section? It looks like a hinting of plagiarism that Duckie has admitted to himself.

That isn't a "template": It is outright plagiarism. Completely uncredited as well. Thank you for pointing that out, sir -- I'll send an apology to Mr. Fazz. +1 to you.

Writes clearly and seems to care about helping others. I have a little concern over motivations, though: Ms. Sanity seems to be some sort of vigilante in the making. This might be a little miscommunication and easily cleared up. Best of luck to her application.

I cannot decide if this was a troll application or not. Somewhere around "My country is California" I decided to put more effort into the application than the author did.
