Heh, it's weird to hear people say that when an Australian accent sounds so normal and boring to me. My favourite is Scottish, but Welsh is a close second.
But like from my perspective it's like an american accent is to you: bog standard. Maybe it's cool but I can't really tell, subjectively :< Also yeah, I gotta say that American school is odd, especially their colleges.
Ehhh not that much, because (like Aussie accents) I've been overexposed to them through media--mostly film. Besides, through the opinions of those around me, I've learnt to associate their accents with less-than-savoury topics (like Trump, mass shootings, bigotry). I don't actually believe all Americans are like that, but the associations are there nonetheless.
Well no I associate Americans with that, as it's all that's on the news and all that people talk about. I didn't choose to associate them with that. I'm just saying it might explain why I'm less fond of the accent Kinda like how I associate RP English accents with politics, public schools and Hermione Granger.
that’s a bit of an ignorant view. most americans aren’t bigots, and every country has idiots everywhere, trump is heavily disliked, and mass shootings have happened more so here recently, but also have happened elsewhere around the globe. terrorism is a global problem. and trump won presidency only bc hillary was a piece of human trash. hes not exactly a politician, but at least he hasn’t killed people
Of course it's not true: I know everything you said It's just what I see on television. Same goes for other countries I suppose: we only see them on the news if they're revolting, changing leaders, or dying (whether by shootings, wars or natural disaster). It's no wonder people end up patriotic to the point of bigotry all over the world.
