Mod applicants are not running against each other like politicians running in a political campaign would be. They are simply applying for a position as moderator because they believe they can change the community in a positive way by earning the position. My opinion, is that members of the community should be supportive of each other. The true people that deserve the moderator position are the people that, even if their applications don't get accepted over the others, will congratulate the people who got the position instead of them. Supporters of mod apps encourage the person applying for mod to continue what they are doing for the community, supporters do not count as votes for that person, and the staff that judges that application will be the only vote that counts. However, I still believe members should keep supporting and not supporting who they think would make a good moderator because it does give them an idea about how others perceive them and I think that will help them.

tl;dr : The application process is not a contest, people should be supportive of each other as it doesn't give them any advantage not to be.

Again this is all just my opinion, and I'd like to hear what others think about the process.

    Thank you for reading~

I used to think it was a competition. However there is no reason not to support someone even if you have an application.
And yes people will be accepted over you and it may be discouraging but in the end your hard work and dedication is what matters, not what rank you happen to have to help fulfil that

Honestly, I used to see it as a competition. I always had to do better then someone, just to get noticed. After getting mod and being demoted a few times. I seen exactly what you are describing right now and I feel that way till this day.

I agree it's not a competition simply because many people can be promoted at one time. Whether or not one player gets mod bears no effect on another player's chances.

I have seen applicants who treat this like a competition. But yeah, I'd describe it as a 'friendly competition.'

I personally think that Mod applications should be locked as soon as one is made, though the user can edit his or hers application when they want.

Because all support means, is who is more popular,

People giving advice and saying what they do or do not like about the player can give that player some tips on what to do. Also if no one can post on an app, everyone's app would get pushed back for pages and pages. Then some viable applicants may get overlooked.

If I apply for a job in the real world, I cant change anything on my cv/application form after I have sent it to the Potential employee

Also I will give £100 to everyone on this server if he actually reads any, the only ones he reads are the ones smods/friends suggest to him

This isn't the real world. Also you now owe everyone £100. And actually it is a competition in the sense that you are competing with yourself to do better than you had previously.

Considering my views on this server, this will seem biased. Though, I assure you it is not. Applying for moderator is actually very similar to a political campaign, unlike what you said. You apply, wait, and gain support from the players. You then wait for higher ranking people to either accept you or another person. Similar to electoral college, though there are 2 final votes instead of a majority of 270 or more. Now, do I agree that the process is fair? No. But is it adequate and does it work? Sure. People should support each other, however it is obvious both parties would not be entirely happy. Real word example; you both apply for the same job. Your friend makes the manager position and you're stuck with the sales associate spot. The only reason for this was because your friend was more "popular" at work and was moved up.

Agreed. It isn't like a competition because everyone will get their fair chance and we all wait for the ending results. ^-^

As Gal said, it is a friendly competition, not one where you can hate people if they are helping more than you or if they get the staff position.
Giving a support means that you personally have seen them helping or doing good or helpful things for the community. You cannot support moderator applications just because they are your friends.
Noobcrew also stated that making a mod app will increase your chances of becoming one as there is a limited amount of spaces. It is said at the bottom of this thread :3

Also: Can the entire server be Moderators...? No. So there's a limited number of Mods. Which means there is competition... and in any competition there are losers. Nash equilibrium: Nash equilibrium - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's something that will bake your noodle about the world-- If every applicant is playing perfectly fair then yes, the best person wins. However if even one single person is engaging in shady practices, undercutting others and/or buttering up the judge then they are extremely likely to win (because they're the only one cheating).

If you play fair while someone else cheats, you lose. If you're cheating but everyone else plays fair, you win! But if everyone cheats you all lose. Welcome to life with the Prisoner's dilemma: Prisoner's dilemma - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
