I've been looking at Mod App's recently and I noticed something... I rarely give any Supports. Often times I see that an App has the same basic format and just leave. Now-a-days there's rarely any differentiation between applications, and it bugs me. I came from the time where applicants had to work extremely hard on their apps to produce the best application possible after days and days of editing in hopes of being a moderator. Not to say that people don't work as hard, they work harder imo. But it's much easier when you have such a specific template.

Now every app has the stupid list-1000-traits-and-their-purpose-about-you (lel), intro, time calendar, outro, and a bunch of useless redundant information that is there just to make the app longer.

Can we try our best to step away from this trend and evolve to even better applications? I'd like to be able to give feedback on applications based on how unique they are, and that just rarely happens now as all the strong candidates follow this "template"

Whats your opinion on this? Write below

I agree. I find myself skipping over 70% of mod apps because they are all the same. There should be a less stringent criteria for mod apps so that the ones that really want it can put in the effort without it being a "standard". This template forces everyone to basically say the same boring over exaggerated crap about themselves and it just blends all the apps together. There's a reason half the applicants decide to retract their apps before they are considered. How about you let people post their apps how they see fit so it's on file and if you want to seriously consider them then watch their actions in game to see if their words line up with their character.

I feel as one of the reasons this happens is because Moderators actually encourage it. Not calling out names, but certain moderators include the steps I mentioned in their application guides, and it really bugs me. The only guides players should be following are the ones that are stickied. With this, the applications get their own qualities and separate each other from the rest. Mods are encouraging players to follow this stupid trend.

Also, I would like to know why they remove the "What qualifications do you have?" portion of .net apps? This was a very critical portion of applications. I considered that and "Why do you think you should be a mod" the parts where you should have the most meat.

I think the first paragraph you wrote is crucial.

Honestly, there should not be application guides. Applicants should try to be themselves and write what they think needs to be written in their applications rather than follow in the footsteps of others.

I remember when Barnaby applied. When I asked him what it was that made his application so unique, he told me that he had simply made the application without looking at any other players' applications or guides.

Be your own person when you apply for moderator. It becomes quite obvious when you're not.

I appreciate Moderation Tips to prepare people for the position. It's alot more helpful then the threads guiding you to make an app like everyone else. How to be a mod > How to get mod

Then again, what happened to being self taught?

Well thats just the template, that doesn't mean you cant go beyond that and expand even further, i think people are just putting in the bare minimum and are just doing what they're expected to do.

I'm not complaining about the actual template itself (except for what I mentioned above about qualifications), I'm complaining about the "template" moderators/players set now. This trend, you could say.

People like to copy applications that were accepted.
Here's mine from when I applied:
[USA] joecobo's T-Mod Application [Hellblock] | Skyblock Forums
I modeled mine off of a few popular/accepted apps I read. Basically someone's mod app got accepted, and every single app after that has looked really similar to it because they think it will help them. In my situation, I just filled my app with the same bullcrap as everyone else, and I was picked because Boobless and Cissa liked me lol.

I actually went back to look at my year old mod app because of this, and I'll just say it sucks a**, and I also suck a** and that's most likely why I never got the promotion.

    I like the current trend.

The format is good, people just need to choose unique information to write.

    Sooo many "I am observant".

That's the whole point of this. There's not much unique stuff you can put with the current template, so everyone ends up saying the same s***.

I tried my best in my application to be unique, but some of the points people make over and over are good points and relevant to a lot of applicants. You can only reword something so many times.

I don't even bother reading apps. They're all too long and list off pointless info that no one really needs to know.
