Well to be honest moderating brought me out of my shell a lot. I actually found myself more confident in real life. Having to help strangers and people you are not exactly comfortable with really made an impact for me.
I have taken away some valuable skills in communication that I have applied irl from this gig. Dealing with difficult people, dealing with language barriers, dealing with youth.

Im not saying you all will have a good experience. I believe you get out what you put in.
I believe that it is worth applying if you are serious about it. If you have the time, you can handle life + moderating, great, apply.

You have to decide if you want to apply, you have to decide if moderating responsibilities are ones you can undertake and its up to you to how much effort you want to put in to make it to mod.

Moderating has been some of the most fun times on this server. I dont need a payment for assisting the admins. I want to be a moderator so made my app and tried my best.

So its all good to have your opinion on whether you think its worth it, however other people need to assess the worth themselves and decide if they want to apply or not.

I could argue that it does. You would spend too much time moderating and not enough time to study or do homework. You would then have to do your homework or study at lunchtime, which then cuts into the time that could have been used to socialize with your friends. Homework counts as 45% of my grade; my school system has a really weird grading system, I know. Then again, you must take the amount of work into account. If I was to become a mod right now, I would not be able to maintain my precious GPA while getting at least 3 hours of sleep per night. There's more to it, of course.

P.S. I don't place hope or my future in God. I don't place my hope or future in anything or anyone except myself.

I have a split view on my experience moderating here. I think it's a good experience in a couple of ways. It taught me how to look at everything from a different angle, and have an unbiased opinion about a matter. It helped me squash my trouble with making decisions quite a bit. It taught me how to take control of a situation no matter how out of hand it already is. Are these experiences you can gain elsewhere in life? Yes, of course. But I gained them as a Skyblock moderator.

Now for the negative half. In the long run, I regret spending my time as a mod here. I wasted my entire summer of 2014 as a TMod here. In that time, I'd forgotten how to interact with people face to face. I'd become anti-social. More of the same after I became full mod in September. As a bit of an introvert, this became crippling to my social life. I felt too obligated to moderate. Perhaps I was just too immature at the time and I couldn't separate real life and moderating here. Now after resigning this past April, here I am, typing this. I've no intent to go down the whole application/TMod road again. Horrible experience overall, in my opinion.

To be honest, I don't think its worth it. And as silly as this sounds, I'd happily be a moderator again knowing this. >>Indecisive for the win. << But then again, I've only been on minecraft for a year or something now. First year and first server. I was made a moderator for half of the time I've owned minecraft.

In my eyes it isn't worth it. Now don't get me wrong,
being a moderator was great. Its fantastic to be able to help players, but there is no perks of being a moderator besides a few commands, in my opinion you start off less than what you started with. The title of 'demotion' is a huge thing so it might be just for the demoted moderators who feel this pressure not necessary the mods who resign.

In my eyes I see a lot more cons then pros. Now these are my perspective.
    Pros:
-You learn how to handle a situation more appropriately.
-Its a great learning experience, majority of the moderators are young. A fantastic chance to learn how to act in certain situations at a young age, even for older moderators.
-You get to help a lot of people
    -You make new friends
-You can control situations when they get out of hand
-If you have social issues then its a great chance to improve on it regardless of being online

    Cons:
-I often got to involved with players and tried to help them with their personal issues which lead up to a lot of stress
    -A lot of stress already
-I was inactive due to health and computer issues which a lot of people flawed me on
-I lost a lot of people I considered to be close with due to being promoted for 'being to serious' 'not enough time' and when I got demoted I lost a lot of people because they clinged onto me to get a higher reputation since 'they're friends with a moderator'.
-People judge you so much more quickly its ridiculous...
-If someone dislikes you for the littlest reason they will get a bunch of useless evidence to try and get you demoted (Not talking about Swim and Stel, a lot of players did this when I said I was too busy to help them and they usually said "I'm going to get you demoted" like a little kid taunt)
-I could never moderator on teamspeak e-e; I was terrible and I was a complete utter noob. (Took me ages to find out how to mute my mic)
-Some players can overrule mods if they've donated enough to the server which makes you unmotivated
-Lack of tools which make you feel unmotivated
-No practice or set up trials to help you understand what you have to do as a moderator
    -Too much expectations

Kindof surprised how you knew I had cancer and different types of depression but I do speak a little about time to time if I ever need to vent but yes, I am not a 'healthy' player which is why I resorted to being a moderator, I'm unable to work since most job I can't do and as soon as they see my medical history I have no chance, which is why I applied to be a moderator, to get a chance to work.

I was never aware of how hard it was to be a moderator though. There are so many things the public does not see and don't even know what goes on. Its a lot of stress, and if your ill or unprepared or even young, its a lot of stress and a lot to live up too.

I feel like you have to be the part to be a moderator, or its very difficult to be the part. There is really no time to learn how to become a moderator, its trial and error. And if you make enough errors, its demotion, or even one error leads up to demotion. If you succeed, there is still no real perks. You end up empty handed either way.

I am rather selfless which is why I thought I'd be a great moderator but really, you give and give and give and hardly ever get anything back, hardly anyone says thank you or grateful for what you've done, a lot of people forget moderators are human and majority of them are teens. People are quick to leave as soon as you get or lose the title. As a moderator I've realized how shallow skyblock can be... not all players are like this, but sadly, the majority are.

    ___
    tl;dr:
Being a moderator has a lot of cons rather than pros, you dont get to practice enough or really know what you need to do its all based on trial and error and confidence to ask higher ups which most trial mods don't have and don't realize that they have their own power to do things and its okay to not do things exactly as other moderators do. You have to be the part to fit the part unless its hard to rise up to the title.
    ______
Just saying, I loved being a moderator, though I think its was a mistake, and a mistake I'll happily make over and over and over as long as I'm playing minecraft. I love helping people and the stress makes me feel alive. But for a lot of people, its either break or make. I constantly remember how much I helped people and often recall the memories of doing so. But I'm happy I'm demoted as well. It is a lot of stress and stress isn't really healthy.

This is so true to me, I was a moderator not even that long ago and I feel like a bunch of people on minecraft are forgetting me or wish they've never known me.

    As for the go out in real life and help people, I try to do that as much as I can but sadly I don't really have the chance or money to do so ._.;

Priorities, man. If some people want to waste their time moderating on a Minecraft server and it makes them happy, then so be it.

I just spent a good chunk of time, reading all that.

But in my opinion, I think that it's worth it if you're willing to take in the risks and dedicate your time and effort towards something you enjoy doing. Bear in mind that moderators are humans, and that humans have different feelings and opinions too.

I don't really like ranting about serious topics like this, so I'll just leave my opinion as that.
    Peace.

I care about this server and want to enjoy it more, and I can do that if I get accepted for moderator as that means I can kick spammers and make it a better place.

Sure, I care about the homeless and the sick and poor and old, but it's not like I can buy every homeless person I see a house.

I can, however sort out every spammer I see and put rude people in line with a moderator rank.

Just because I'm really shy or have social anxiety, it doesn't effect my moderating skills at all. I am still perfectly healthy and it doesn't make me an unfit moderator. I just wanted to clear that up.

I wanted to be a moderator because I really wanted to help the community. I wanted to help those in need of help because I rarely saw mods online in my timezone. Thus far I have found that moderating is usually fun, sometimes stressful, but luckily I can handle stress. Becoming a moderator has helped me become more sociable with people. I learned to interact with different types of people. Whether you apply for mod or not, it's your opinion. It depends if you want to help people or not. However, if you do apply for mod, you need to make sure you can handle the responsibilities of a moderator, for example, make sure you're active and make sure you're mature and helpful. I am glad that I'm a moderator. I don't regret applying.

What an odd discussion - Immortality seems to be arguing the moderating is pointless, possibly even harmful, and that nobody without some form of neurosis would possibly ever volunteer, and yet says that he does not approve of anarchy. There are unmoderated servers and they are called "anarchy" servers for a reason. If you want a community to be governed by rules there must be people to administer those rules. It's not a deep philosophical question about the nature of justice, it's just practical. I don't want to be a moderator, but I'm grateful to those who do the job because otherwise none of us could play this game we are playing. And yeah of course it's not on a par with feeding orphans or whatever, but most human activities are kind of pointless once people are fed and housed. Minecraft isn't any more pointless than golf. Or scrapbooking. Maybe you could track down the secretary of my mum's craft group and tell her that only a profoundly broken person would volunteer their time to such un ultimately meaningless activity?

    tl:dr? Thanks moderaters!

    Just because I am bored,
Its not minecrafts fault that you fail
It is not skyblocks fault if you are addicted
It is not the moderating position's fault you cant prioritize real life and a video game.

You are signing up for mod because you want to help the server.
You want to make the server better.
You are not signing up to losing your irl friends, to get detached from the real world and having your grades suffer. If this is what happens then honestly look at your own actions, and don't blame the game you chose to mod on.

That is the choice you make. This is something you control.
Learn to prioritize and then you can see that you can balance real life and moderating.

And please, if anyone is going to argue we should be out there helping the homeless or orphans or the sick or whatever, just remember, minecraft moderating is volunteering but its also a hobby.
    Everyone is entitled to one.
I moderate several servers and I went and help someone homeless as well. They are not on the same level so stop comparing them.

See, now you took my words of out context, combined them and wrote that comment. Yes, I do not approve anarchy, but I didn't say that moderating is pointless at all. It sure is one of the most important aspects on every game and server, but as you look at the application section, you see too many people hoping to become part of staff team. And the thread question was addressed to the current applicants and moderators, not to the 12 years old kids, like you.

My post did show all my personal negatives of moderating, but there was a positive.
For one, I did make a friend who I literally cannot get rid of if I tried. :t
I've always been a strong leader, and I thrive in times of pressure. Moderating made me feel good about myself and kind of nursed those traits. For example:
    1. I used to debate for hours on someone's ban appeal, now I'm probably going to join a debate club (which looks hella good on a resume), I can do interviews for jobs or scholarships better, etc, etc.

    2. It was always important for me to stick with my beliefs, and not be pushed over to do something I didn't think was right just because it was easier. That's probably going to keep me out of trouble for the rest of my life tbh.

    3. I can deal with ALL TYPES of people. I would be a killer in customer service. I've helped people who barely spoke English, a couple who DIDN'T speak English, kids who god knows how old they were. Literally some people on here have to be 6 or 7. I've dealt with the most difficult, sarcastic human beings I've ever met. Something about being online makes people feel invincible. So yeah. I could keep a cool head if someone got two inches away from my face and screamed at me. Actually, I have. Fun story.

So I suppose if you had a perfectly balanced life, moderating could be healthy for you.
But if you weren't completely on your education, that could slip.
If you just played TOO MUCH, things could slip.
If you were like me, and have issues talking to people in real life, you may go online to fill that social gap. Unhealthy.

It depends on your personality. Do you like to feel responsible and take charge? Then yes applying is worth it. If you're more laid back then you probably won't.

    Hi

Personally, I loved being a moderator. It's not everyone's thing. For one, it's hard to balance real life with it. However, if you can get passed that, I believe it's a great experience that taught me both a lot about myself and a lot about people in general.

Apply for moderator if you're willing to spend all your time on here plus extra because people will complain if you're offline for at least an hour. It has it's perks though, people will tend to notice you and want to be your friend more plus it can be fun, it did take my mind off things and generally I enjoyed finding rule breakers. But seriously, be ready to have to practically sell your soul.

I pretty much was the first deaf mod on Mineverse.

But gaming took lot of my life.
