    Hi

I get that hiding the ban reports stop people commenting heavily on those reports, but to me a better system would be to have the reports view able to all members, but restricted write permissions. Essentially everyone can see the report, but only reporter and mods can write on it.

I would see the benefits of this as:
    • Avoid duplicate ban reports.
    • Sometimes I don't report as I assume someone else has but unable to confirm since the section is private
    • If a user is being investigated for scamming other players may want to avoid trading
    • Full transparency
Can I ask why the section was made private, I believe it used to be public?

Any opinions on this are welcome, not going to take any offence if I'm in the minority opinion here.

I like that they're hidden. It prevents public shaming.

However this becomes redundant when the report is moved into the archive, warned players, banned players, and no further action appear there when closed anyway

Some reports go on for weeks or longer. I understand where you're coming from.

This would be good, in that I could be nosy and read reports etc, but I think it is best that they remain private. As Vikki said I think it would lead to public shaming and would be detrimental, archived threads have already been resolved which means that anyone viewing will know if the person is actually guilty or not. If we were allowed to view unresolved ban reports people would possible draw incorrect conclusions about a player prior to the report being resolved.

    tl;dr : No support.

Hiding them would prevent "conspiracies" from occurring. The reported can bribe a random person to vouch for them and alters the evidence while the report is still on-going.

When you have the moderator title, then you'll be able to see the reports section.

I'm sure cyp had his reasons for hiding the section but some are just hilarious to read

There was no way to make the section read only, for normal players. This is because the thread maker also wont be able to post in it after making the thread. The permissions will allow mods to see all the threads and bypass post restrictions, but then the owner of the thread who is a normal player and doesnt have mod perms cant override. There is no way to make a player have a bypass on their own thread I believe which is why read only couldn't be done. Its to do with xenforo's limitations so thats why it was either public or private.
The reason ban appeal and reports are private was many people started to post, get involved and moderators had more work trying to keep control of the thread rather than the actual report.
So I don't want the section to be open again at all. However if it is we have something called a reply ban, which will stop players from posting on a thread. But i dont want to have to maintain order on appeals and reports, i just want them solved, and the best way is keeping those sections private.

What's the point of it? sorry but there's no point in it. why do that when you can just see the ban appeals archive area.

reports or appeals or both? personally i want appeals public with write restrictions, so we can see it but not comment. maybe have a button to request permission to comment (given valid evidence or proof to add)
    i for one, like transparency

Given that technical restriction I agree that the current system of having it hidden is the best option. Maybe Xenforo can add some additional permission features in a later release and this point could be revisited. Feel free to put a lock on this thread

I would have loved read only but yeah technical restriction. As much as I dislike having the appeals and reports public, I will see if cyp has considered a change. but i will lock this for you
