IMO, a former greenie of 7 months, it actually wasn't that bad to be a greenie. I remember having occasionally mods come over to my island and lurk around. I had the problem of people not trusting me, but giving them the items first and recording the trade just in case worked. Perhaps I wasn't as noticed in chat, but I didn't see a major difference as I traded myself to donor $10. Maybe things have changed a lot?
I remember bing a greenie back in 2012 and getting upgraded for 8 diamonds. Once I was 10 donor I found getting stuff was a lot easier as mainly because of the restart glitch which was back then. I found that you was a lot more recognised as a donator, from there I went on to get 25 and 50 and this was when I started making a load of friends and getting a few valuables here and there. I think I stayed at 50 for a few months as I didn't see the need to go any higher as I had the essential commands I needed and the kit was also an easy way of making a little more valuables. I then applied for tmod in September of 2013 and got accepted into the staff in December 2013. This was when I really started to get recognised and started making friends with their mods that I hadn't really spoken to. This was also when I started making friends with other donors and some greenies here and there. When I got promoted to full mod in July time I realised how much of a difference it is from tmod in the terms you got many more commands and responsibilities. I then went on to get donor 100 and 250 while being mod. Being donor/mod does make you experience more enjoyable and easier to make friends and do other things but it's still easy to get along as a greenie. The only way I've got my donor ranks is by using items.
I never spent a penny on Overlord, or Skygod. I remember back in 2013 maybe 2014, Noobcrew made me $250 for a stack of diamond blocks.
Oh come on, when I was a greenbean, I had around 31 diamonds, which I got from hosting my lotteries. Honestly, it is not that hard to get diamonds on SB as soon as you say something really stupid, immature, funny or amusing in chat for what players will know you.

I have never had that problem as a greenie ^^ Though on the other hand, I have always been quite active and made myself trusted, before doing larger trades and such If you start with smaller trades and watch chat yourself first, then doing larger trades after a while shouldn't be too hard ^^ Buying donor makes things easier for sure, but in the long run, its about making people remember your name. And I do remember the name of many greenies personally, be it for their shops or their personality.
