Honestly, the only thing to do is keep trying till you get it. You have to get a feel for how much pressure you need and the foot placement that works best for you. I use a really wide and long board because I am a big guy (6ft, 218lbs) so I have to modify to fit me to do any trick. Varials are like the easiest flip trick to do because you can do them so sloppy. This is me getting back into skating after about 10 years. Best advice I have is to never stop trying. I stopped because I almost broke my spine back in highschool. I wish I kept going because I am no where near as skillful as I used to be. If you don't use it, you lose it. Best of luck! I hope you learn it and kill it.
