The chat is no longer moderated, material discussed and language used is by far now rated "R".
Having to move kids to a new server for now will pop in maybe in a week or so to see if anything is done.
If not, it was nice knowing you all. Kinda sad to see so many good ppl leave over such an issue. Hope something gets resolved, take care.

 

This is why we have a report section on the forums, report the players who is breaking chat rules and they'll be punished.

Make sure you have evidence before posting a report.

I highly doubt that it's "R". I mean pwnfilter would block most of that. No more than PG-13 I assume.

 

SakuraWolf was online during the main incident I assume Jeff is referring to but her connection kept dropping at that moment. Idk if the player in question was banned or not. I also don't know if anyone collected screenshots.

It was an old player being arrogant and basically saying "hey don't tell me what to do, I do what I want and will swear if I want to, I've played on this server for years you can't tell me what to do". It was mild swears not extreme language but if someone's parent says hey don't, my kids are on here, then I think they should be respected not jeered. It was the attitude that annoyed me more than the language if I'm honest. The said person then went on to talk vaguely about getting high and womanising, who's a virgin and so on and I understand entirely where Jeff is coming from. I would not feel comfortable with my kids on with that kind of conversation taking place. I have not seen it at all during the morning, but I think it's quite commonplace in the evening (I'm GMT+2) so I'm guessing it's the same general group of mid-older teens trying to act "cool" talking about borderline things in the global chat, mainly I think smokeweederryday is not a slogan 8yolds should be saying and hearing all the time :/ I think really someone just has to decide where the line should fall, then draw the line and make it clear that it won't be tolerated and mods kicking for these kinds of discussions will be supported and not hated on for being "lame" or "uncool" etc.

I know this is slightly off-topic but I also think TS is certainly not suitable for kids. I think it should be advertised as for older teens/adults e.g. a disclaimer saying so should come up when you log in. Maybe you could have a kids channel that is moderated a bit more. I kind of like how it is now, it's banter ^^ but if my 7yo or whatever went on it I would be mortified... the no swearing message when you log in is a joke lel. I've heard that fhritp song at least 8 times on TS and I've only been on TS a few times... I don't mind it now but when I have kids who will inevitably play Minecraft all day it would be a problem...

I am looking forward to seeing more mods promoted, I see a lot of Krissy, Grace, Carl and Sakura, and Larry and PC from time to time (timezones that coincide with mine I assume) but I tend to find the mods are mostly on at the same kind of times of day. E.g. you have 2 or three mods, or no mods. During the day I find there are large periods of time for me where there are no mods at all. Perhaps if you wanted to create a rank "chat mod" some players would be willing to help with regards to the chat (myself included) but many people have said that would be superfluous. I understand that you can always report a player for swearing or disrespect but it takes a lot of time/effort to compile a report with evidence each time someone says something innappropriate in the chat. I considered doing one for the incident mentioned above actually but I didn't feel it was my place and if I'm honest, I didn't know the rude player well but they seemed to be a well known older player, I was scared I would get hated on by everyone for being a boring old lady so I simply sat on my bed swearing at him for a bit, and did nothing.

Well anyway Jeff I hope you guys don't decide to leave, you and Sarah would be missed a great deal! And that arrogant teenageer is as my friend once humerously put it - "a jobby toilet". x

 

Personally, when I was around 8, I hated the "Kids Targeted" things, because I wanted to be older and be treated equally; I think a disclaimer would be much better.

Well, chat can be a bit much some times, but at the same time do remember that there actually is a minimum of 13 years of age for any social use of the internet. (Facebook, msn, skype, even youtube). As sad as it is, letting kids below 13 play games with chats and social between other people, thats actually the parents own responsibility.

Though of course, talking about sex, swearing etc. that doesnt belong to the chat at all.

 

I was absolutely not trying to complain about any of the mods, I think they are all wonderful, those that I have met. The problem was that at the time I described, there were almost no mods on ... and this is fairly common when I'm on. I think we really just need more mods kicking around. Sakura was there at the time I described - but I messaged her asking if she was AFK, she replied saying she was there but that her connection kept breaking (this is not common it was just bad luck) and that she had "called for backup". I think PC came on soon afterwards and dealt with the issue but I can't really comment as I had stopped paying attention to the chat at this point. I did not intend to make it sound like Sakura is a bad mod, quite the opposite, she is a great mod. ^^ It was just unlucky that at the time of the incident she was not available to help due to an unusual connection issue, and there was no one else there at all. I hope I made that clearer...

Chat does seem bad lately, and sometimes is way out of hand.

To those of you who want to turn it off:

• Pause the game
• Select options
• Click multiplayer settings
• In the top left hit the Chat: button, you can make this so chat is completely off or commands are only shown.

 

Or just push the F1 button

 

Yeah but if you push the F1 button you can't see your hand, tool, or crosshair.

The problem occurs when there are no moderators online. I haven't seen issues when there are moderators present because the problem is for the most part always handled. Clearly this reverts to the issues with lack of moderators, which I am sure is going to be handled soon.

Krissy I agree with what you said apart from this line ^ ... three people have already left for this reason specifically. Possibly more that I do not know about. Like Bertis said, it's rarely an issue when there are mods on, the presence puts people off. So I think you mostly do not see the chat when it's bad as when you are there, people are deterred from being tools. I also think I see you mostly in the mornings, I'm guessing the evening for me is when Krissy is getting her beauty sleep? Or are you one of those that doesn't sleep? x
